Regardless of that..

To be trumpeting 3 million transaction a day is nothing special in my books..... Especially not for something like the eToll system....
 
Lets face it - SANRAL couldn't give two hoots if they collect even 1 cent from motorists.

Pravin will just write them a bailout cheque.
 
Considering how much we overpaid for the system I'd be concerned if they couldn't process 3 million transactions daily.

So 58000 cars under a gantry a day.

Thats 2416 Cars an Hour, which is 40 odd a minute.

That is not a great number of transactions at all... less than 1 a second, and given that each gantry has around 5 cameras (therefore I would assume 5 systems to process the entry), its not a great load on the system at all.

Well you get peak times and off peak times, I doubt there are many cars per minute at 3am, but there are hundreds going under a gantry per minute at 7:30am.

BTW, e-tolls doesn't seem to have helped much with easing congestion.

Oh I know that, not really trying to discount that...

But even assuming for a 4 fold increase on the average at peak times, you get to 160 cars a minute, spread over 5 cameras... its not a huge load at all, given that the cameras should be able to do 30fps or more.

Yup, don't bother going that route between 06h45-08h00 its a disaster between Samrand and Olifantfontein turn off before Teazers. btw.. where does a person report a road for road conditions being a non-compliant with road standards? the stretch from Centurion to Olifantfontein is the worst the otherway from New Road all the way.. lanes disappear and the number of potholes and unevenness is insane. I'm thinking if the road state is pathetic they need to turn off gauntries between Centurion and New road at the cost of the Johannesburg Municipality or Gauteng Provincial Gov because Old Pta road is their baby and if its a turd, they need to pay for drivers to use the N1(to which its an alternative).

btw there is no lights there so at night(so its dangerous as heck) take Olifantfontein to N1 for a free ride all the way to Centurion/Old Jhb Road.

Old JHB is dangerous at some points due to the way its designed(bends on the road by the Centurion Lifestyle Mall? has been declared not up to scratch btw) but Old PTA is dangerous because there was f'all maintenance done for years based on the state of the road. hah i guess you can tell which municipality owns it ;)
