Saol 30 Gig slow?

Yes that response is more like the SAOL I know and the total lack of tact when it comes in dealing with customers.

Lets face it people paid R599 for a service and they are not getting the performance they bargained for. When they signed up with your company you should have made it clear from the beginning what all the restrictions are and what to expect.

I still cannot understand why people keep on paying for a service that at the moment seems to be not up to standard.

I know most of the people on this forum including myself dont really like Telkom, but at the moment Telkominternet is the best offer available. Sad but true.

Thanks for explaining the issue Tarquin. On a related note, Is it SAOL's intention to move their 10GB accounts to IPC and if so, will you provide timely (ie. at least 1 month) notice?

Slow or not ?

I have it on good authority that the IPC network is more stable since some configurations changes were made with SAOL have any of you tried pinging or testing the line speeds in the last 2 hrs ?

I have a question for WiSeCRACK - do u have an SAOL account ?

Was just wondering - I see you curse and fight SAOL on every opporunity you can so there must be a reason

We are trying to build our own infrastructure, but it is taking longer than we expected as Telkom is doing its thing on us and dragging their feet at every opportunity they get. Think of it, the longer they take to install our lines, the more money they make out of us. They know that we use international suppliers for our international bandwidth so if they take long to install lines for us we will have to continue to use them for our ADSL clients and we will provide congested service too so we can not move any more clients to IPC until Telkom install the rest of our lines that have been on order for more than two months now.

Strangely enough we don’t have congestion on our incoming links, just our IPC links, this is due to the fact that international suppliers can upgrade or install connections in 2 days when Telkom take 2+ months.

We are nearing our tether with Telkom and pretty soon will have no choice but to take legal action as it is clearly damaging our reputation and is having a profound effect on business.

We will still keep many clients on Telkom - SAIX but we would also like to provide large cap accounts at reasonable prices to the public and the only way to do this profitably is to install our own infrastructure to serve them.

Cant see any difference at all. Test at 7.22pm

Speed test (Telkom) Heh kinda funny...but hope explains the pain of issues :(
My line is 348

Your line speed is approximately 30.6 Kbps or 3.8 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 133.266 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 30.6 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 3.8 (kiloBytes/second)

I would consider 7.22pm to be off peak? Felt better with no packet loss on google however totally stand still at moment.

Well be grateful! This is what I get on Uunet ( since they went on go-slow last week ):

Lets be grateful we don't have that connection  - what's there response to that ?

That sucks 2k/3k ms! :(

How does speed test and local pings work with UUNet?

Going to bitch tomorrow to my reseller - will let you know.

jabulani - do remember, thats only icmp throttling/shaping, you will notice certain things ie. Guildwars run smooth 400ms odd still, someone prob asked to give access to guildwars or what not.

Thanks for that info Clipse. To be honest the real issue is not the icmp but the slow downloads off servers that normally fly quite fast. Something has slowed everything down since last week. Appreciate your response! :)

Across the network to Telkom's speed test:

On a 384 line. Not too bad I suppose.

This will always look great as this ADSL test is on Telkom's network.
I will setup an ADSL test on my network that will give the same resaults.

If you want a true test then goto IS's ADSL test and select the local or international test.
