I went onto the 384k saol package with line for R499 a while ago - before mweb etc's offers.
I sent an email to SAOL when mweb started their uncapped offerings, asking if they were to follow suit, got no reply!

Today I get told my account has been stopped. I asked why.
The girl on the line says SAOL doesn't offer uncapped anymore, so they migrated me to a 1gb capped account.
They claim to have phoned me and emailed me, but surprise, even though my phone is on 24/7 and email is the basis of my days, no such email or phone call.
They now want me to pay R139 for the this month's 1gb cap and line rental.

When I asked why nobody had tried harder to get hold of me to inform me of their changes, no reply.

So be warned. SAOL doesn't offer uncapped anymore. Their service levels are shocking (yesterday they told me my problem was a seacom cable one, today its no uncapped account)
And they certainly don't want business...

Shocker!:mad::mad:

yeah includes line rental....but what got me was the fact that they simply decided to change my account without letting me know.
I was only still on them while deciding which of the other uncapped offerings looked better.
Yeah...so tomorrow will be looking for a new ISP and staying far far away from SAOL...

There's been a few posts from guys who received emails informing them of the cancellation of their uncapped accounts, especially highlighting their high usage (80gb+/1) ... Best bet is to go with Mweb, they at least seem stable enough to keep running their uncapped in good order.

Vonii
thanks. didn't receive one myself, and my useage was usually between 60gb to 80gb...
probably gonna go for mweb anyway...i heard their ceo a while back on 702 saying 100gb doesnt scare him...
so lets hope!!!!

Very weird indeed.

Did you get an email stating that uncapped will be terminated?

Im still on uncapped, but they did not debit my account yet.
This makes me very nervous.

i must say there support email system is really bad compared to normal isp,s
they take like 3-4 days to reply to a simple email and they don't even help , u send them speed test reports , links to mybb which similar people have had the same problems that same day and they still they say nothing wrong with the problem i asked them about
quite disappointing ... i eventually gave up on that , easier to phone and have to help you sigh

Best to check it out - I couldn't believe it when the girl told me over the phone.
She's promised to get someone to phone me tomorrow...but never received a single email or phone call.
I'll wait and see if someone actually does phone!!!

I emailed Des at SAOL, she usually responds instantly, will let you know what happens from my side.

I am on SAOL uncapped and didnt recieve an email/phone call about the uncapped package no longer existing.

Mines still running strong actually... downloaded 6gb this month already and under the client login page it says:
Total Remaining: Uncapped

Though this thread does seem kind of worrying :(, and I have to agree, their email support is really awful.

Lalers
perhaps you're not using more than 60gb? not sure why? I thought mine was okay until the disturbing support call this afternoon.
yeah and agree with the email support comment.

It seems its not only the shocking speed but the shocking actions as well.

I think you can make a complaint? But to who?

Guys,
spoke to a Marlon this morning and he sent me the email that apparently went out - but i never received.

Read below:

With Mweb and other ISP's offering cheap shaped bandwidth, we have to review our uncapped packages:

We regret to inform you that your average usage is more than double the average of all other users on the same service, it is considered abusive and we reserve the right to terminate the account or move you onto a more appropriate package. This is degrading the service for everyone and thus in violation of our terms of service.

We can offer the following:

1. You can go onto a business package at R2300 per month all inclusive.

2. A line only account with a free 1Gb cap for debugging purposes at R139, which is still much cheaper than having the line rental with Telkom, you can then source an uncapped service from another ISP. The reason we give you a free gig is that when you have a problem, you can use the free gig to determine whether the line is down or not, by using the free account we provide.
If both accounts do not work, phone us and we will log a line fault for you.

3. We can give you a 30Gig account at the same price that you are currently paying. Top ups will cost you R29 per gig.

If we do not hear from you by Monday the 26/04/2010, your account will revert to option 2 at the end of this month.

Now isn't that ridiculous - uncapped - but because you use double what other people use, it is considered abusive...what a joke...
Sure that this should be reported to the Advertising Standards Authority...
but anyway...don't say you haven't been warned....
Apparently SAOL like you to stay, as long as you only use 10-20gb a month...that's their definition of uncapped...

Check your Spam folder for the email maybe?
I'm still fine on my R499 uncapped, but I don't do more than 15gig to 20gig a month, usually.

How is it though that everyone seems to be more than double the "average"? I think maybe the average was calculated before anyone started actually using the service based on what would be profitable.
