Hey everyone

Anyone else on SAOL experiencing extremely slow speeds after the new username/network change?

I received an sms from them on Tuesday requesting me to change my username from [email protected] to [email protected] - shortly after implementing this change I noticed that my IP address range had changed from 165.x.x.x to 196.x.x.x and I have not been able to get a speed test over 10kB/sec since!(Speed test done on the Telkom speed test page)

I contacted them and someone there informed me that they were "implementing their own ADSL". Before they made this change my speed test rated between 45kB/sec to 50kB/sec.

Anyone have any ideas? The net is so unbearably slow - sites take ages to load and I can barely download any files at all.

The same problem here. I was informed that the persom who is responsible for IPC will phone me but he never did. It looks like SAOL=TELKOM.

I never got asked to change my isername and password, must be there new phase out to their own IPC

Only a portion of our clients have been moved over to IPC. We are experiencing some teething problems which are not being helped by the fact that Telkom are dragging thier feet in getting our IPC upgrade installed.

Please PM me if you are being affected by these changes and I'll see what I can do to help you. (Please provide SAOL username and a contact number)

WiseCrack, lets not start another petty argument between you and SAOL, we all know you are high on crack and that crack has unfortunately not made you wise.

All I can say is that at this stage of the game I am glad I do not own an ISP Business.
My sympathies go to both customers and providers of these services.

I like to praise where its needed and I like to criticize where its also needed.

Being an SAOL so far satisfied client, as far as I am concerned, if SAOL cant provide the service agreed between client and SAOL, the client concerned has grounds for termination of the agreement, thus the month notice required here will automatically fall away.

I am so far happy with SAOL but, if this new username/password reaches me and I don't have the promised service, I will with immediate effect, terminate the service and will demand a refund of the month concerned.

I have to criticize here just for the simple reason that, if the service was not in place SAOL should not be offering it.

A lapse in service as far as I am concerned.

We have had enough between Telkom, and ISPs, the ball gets passed between those two and we in the middle tying to catch it.

Like I said in one of my previous posts, soon everyone will be thinking Telkom again, till the SNO starts offering their services.

I must emphasize here that I AM NOT UNHAPPY WITH SAOL SERVICE SO FAR, but I do feel for you guys that cannot benefit from a service that you have paid in advance.

Hopefully soon we will have choice and by choice I mean having the ability to choose between ISP's that put customers first and not by being the cheapest win by default on that grounds alone.

Did it ever cross your mind that by offering 10gigs for R329 and 30gigs for R599 is not being interested in making money (ripping clients off) but to put customers first? by offering affordable ADSL?

Your name Wise(Crack) suits you. :p

Yeah well R199 for 30GIGS beat the hell out of R349 for 10GIGS.

You are still not seeing it-open your eyes Telkom have you so brainwashed(Dead) that you are thinking 10GIGS for R349 is a good deal...lol

I have never understood why SAOL and Axxess did not get together and put up a shared IPC solution. They could both have leased traffic from the shared entity. They are both going through the pain and the ISP market is so tight it's crazy. I think the market could gain from having a couple of smaller guys join together. They could eventually gain enough weight to give MWeb a go for it's money. They would be able to negotiate better rates if they had more bandwidth. Think about a R250 10GB package marketed directly after one of Mweb's R149 for 1GB.

Just my 2.31725377365 cents worth

Cheers

Problem with smaller companies joining to become a single entity results in things like........MWEB. They gobbled up so much of the market that they can't keep themselves lean and invariably you end up paying R150 bucks for a 1gig account.

ISP's who stay as they are is a good idea imho. We've already got the ISPA were they can get together and use their combined strength to leaverage for change.

Everybody must just remember that sticking with an isp other than telkom is the right thing to do.....Hell stick with an ISP that isn't usign saix is even betta.

IMO any change they leverage isnt necessarily going to be in the consumers best interest - after all - the ISP wants to make a profit too.

Out of curiosity - apart from groups like MyADSL is there an internet users association in SA?

Sorry for the off the topic post

Yes there I agree with you but, can you show me where that deal is advertised? because I can surely show you where the 10gig for R349 is.

That is called "unfair business practice" which makes it illegal.

If this took place in a 1st world country (this country according to Rikush1t isn't, so, according to his statement, that makes him 3rd class human being,) would be stopped within days? hours? ... but like I said there are no good lawyers in this country, if we had good lawyers they would of taken on Telskum a long time ago.

About being brainwashed? hmmmm I think that you were, because you went back to momma .... :D

Listen I am talking about the prices WebAfrica had back in September. They charged R199 for 30Gigs.

Me cries for September.

Oh!! ok, got you .. but remember, that was when there was no per gig billing.

I also had one of those and worked great no hiccups ever.

I also cry for September :(

But let us analyze the current situation, I mean the per gig situation.

It boggles my mind that with the current per gig billing SAOL offers 30gigs at R19.97 per gig .. just doesnt make sense ...

WebAfrica offered 30gig at R199 = R6.64 per gig.

Now the average is R60 per gig

I wonder why Telskum is making (stealing) that much money from us.

My question here has to be directed at the members of the Law association of South Africa that turn a blind eye to that.

You would think that out of all the people reading these forums someone will know what to do, or some good lawyers

Back on Topic...

Back on topic, I am also having the same trouble. Pedantic, do you have any idea when these "teething troubles" will be sorted out? It is extremely frustrating. I have been impressed with SAOL's service thus far, but you could have at least put something up on saol.com informing customers about the issues.

Local sites seem "fine" at the moment, but international is a no go.
