SAOL...uncapped 4mb?? Neethi?

Me too is waiting and hoping, even 512 will be something... actually anything would be something...

I've sent an Email asking if SAOL can accommodate its users with competitive packages before month end, as I'm VERY keen on taking a 4mb uncapped (don't care too much about the shaped as long as each torrent gets atleast 40K minimum, is fine by me). SAOL has been very quiet, no reply. It will be a pitty if they can't offer its current user base, as I like SAOL! and it will be more convenient just to ask them to upgrade my account... but... sofar nothing!... will jump ship if they don't come to the party, and give my month's notice come the 30th!

Neethi?

I got a response from them when I cancelled my 4Mbps + 5GB account with them:
Hi Jono

Thank you very much for the email below. I would like to bring a view
points to your attention regarding mweb offerings.

You will see mweb has both capped and uncapped offerings. There capped
offerings are MUCH more expensive than our capped offerings, you have
to ask yourself why?

The answer I believe relates to this clause in their terms and
conditions:

5.6 You may not restrict, inhibit or interfere with the ability of any
person to access, use or enjoy the Internet or the ADSL Services, or
create an unusually large burden on our network, including, without
limitation, continuously uploading or downloading streaming video or
audio; continuous FTP uploading or downloading, or otherwise
generating levels of traffic sufficient to impede others' ability to
send or retrieve information, or to use the ADSL Services in an
abusive manner in connection with any unlimited packages, options or
promotions.

So bottom line, it is uncapped, but you cannot really use it to
download anything or they throttle you. Furthermore, the service they
are offering is shaped, which means stuff like skype and
gaming and p2p does not work so well, nor does video and audio
streaming as all these programs work on unknown ports which are shaped
(read throttled) under heavy load.

We sincerely wish that you will reconsider your cancellation with us,
however if you still wish to cancel and move to MWEB. You will need to
give us one calendar month notice to terminate the services and
transfer the ADSL line

Please advise if you still wish to proceed with the cancellation ?

Kind Regards
Desiree

And

Hi Jono

My director has agreed to match the offer however it is subjected to
the same terms and conditions as MWEB, we find 30 gigs abusive, so
once you reach 30 gigs we will trottle the bandwidth.

Will you consider staying with SAOL ?

Look forward to your reply

Hehe, 30GB :)

SAOL must not come with that crap. I don't mind the shaped. I don't care about how Mweb does it, and I do not agree with the 30gig throttle. Axxess's terms are less strict than Mweb, and If SAOL can't provide me with a service equal or better, I'm hopping over to Axxess!

30gigs is not abusive SAOL!... Over 250gb, then I'd agree... Get with it!

OMG 30 gigs abusive?!!
As a lowly 384k user i have hit 40gb easily without 24/7 downloading.
For SAOL to survive the incoming hurricane they better start upping their game.

to bump this thread... This is taken from the AXXESS uncapped page:
Pros

1. No contracts. (Month-to-Month Billing)
2. Instant Signup - No forms / No faxing / No Credit Checks
3. Full 24/7 Tech Support
4. International bandwidth is supplied via Fibre.
5. No Rolling Thresholds / No rate limiting.
6. Unlimited Data.

7. Can use the IS SMTP server. (smtp.isdsl.net)
8. Uncapped Traffic allows for "always on" internet access. Your ADSL account will not be terminated regardless of your usage (within the limits set out in the AUP)
9. Quick & Easy. Switch to this service in minimal time with minimal effort. You just change your Username and Password.
10. Fixed Monthly Fee.
11. No set up fee.

No Cons

1. No fixed IP address. Only Dynamic IP address.
2. 1 concurrent connection.

Throttled @ 30gb!... SAOL can eat my shorts :) We want what AXXESS promises or better! Come SAOL, make a plan! 4 days to go or i'm cancelling!

I contacted SAOL and asked them to cancle my account and I was told that at the end of April (30 Days Notice) they will cancel my account and my adsl line. I asked about getting the line transferred back to Telkom, but according to them I will have to reapply for my adsl service as they cannot transfer it back. Has any one else had similiar issues? This seems like a backwards way of doing things.

Call telkom and tell them you want to take over that account as its yours, and have it transferred back to telkom in your name. - not sure if they'll charge anything, but I'd think that its an active connection, just a change in details really...

moklet, same as Mweb, just that SAOL's insisting that you get throttled when you reach 30gb. If this is their stance, then I doubt you'd want it as the other offers are better!

SAOL has made it clear that their current 384k uncapped unshaped product will remain uncapped and unshaped. If you want to pay the same as what the MWeb users are paying such a cheaper product will be shaped.

Currently I am happy to pay a premium for the unshaped product. A 4Mb product will be nice though.

VJB, Yea, its nice that its unshaped on 384k, (getting what, 22, average 34k, peak 40k sometimes on speeds) but considering its a 4mb shaped account, you'd likely get about the same speed on torrents if not a little more than an unshaped 384k.... and possibly a whole lot more at night! If SAOL is going to come in and say Throttled at xGb, then its not the same as Mweb, least of all Axxess which seems to be the nicer deal as you don't have to give your DSL sub to the ISP like Mweb, and its only R10 more!

It would be a pitty if SAOL doesn't want to offer similar products with similar Pros & Cons than axxess!

Thanks LabAnimal, I called telkom today and they can take back the line if necessary. Seems like SAOL are just being full of nonsense with the line rental.
Would be interesting to note if anyone else has had issues transfering theyre line back to telkom from other ISP's.

so SAOL says more than 30Gigs is abuse on Uncapped!?? :wtf:

I never use nearly that much, but after that type of nonsense, and with them lying about having to re-apply when moving the adsl-line back to Telkom, I'm re-considering staying with them.

Remember to give your notice before the month-end, and use the word Migrate, when requesting a move back to Telkom. (you cannot migrate the adsl rental direct to another ISP)
