Agreed. I've got a lot of time for the police. Some incompetent idiot in IT not sanitizing input fields has nothing to do with the police force proper. There may or may not have been some bad apples in Marikana, in time we'll see that, but to release information about the general public is punishing the wrong people!

The person who wrote the code that was compromised probably left SAPS ages ago, and even if he didn't, that single person will probably get a warning or fired. This is soooo far removed from any Marikana link, that it's laughable the hacker would use that as an excuse for doing what he did.

Chances are zero. Developers dont have security in mind when they program. its all about getting the code out as fast as possible.

Security should be designed into code before its written - most of the time its a afterthought and then poorly implemented or not at all.

Thee number of sites still vulnerable to SQL injection attacks is scary!
 
Anything that embarrasses the SAPS has got my vote. It's time the SAPS was completely disbanded and a new police force started from scratch and put in its place. Anything would be better than the bunch of incompetent fools we currently have.

He's right though. There's buggerall whistleblower info in there. I read through a lot of the data and most of it is people yapping about nonsense, students looking for a job, etc.

Your question is premised on the assumption that they were being "attacked", which is not necessarily true.

I went there and I can tell you that what the police spin doctors made the nation believe to be true was a fabrication and complete false. But let's let the commissions do their job, and please Roadrunner be careful how you pose your questions - try to be objective. Rather ask what happened than ask a pregnant question which has an assumption and requires validation of your preconceived "fact" i.e. they were being attacked attacked therefore basic survival instincts kicked in.

and also to call this idiot a "hacker" is an insult to any decent hacker out there. All this muppet is is a script-kiddie with a chip on his bloody shoulder. Also like his little quip on CID.. blowing them off like they're nothing. If this idiot is actually in the borders of SA he will be in for a rude awakening relatively soon in my opinion. CID are actually pretty bloody good.

Do you only read News24 or something? Did you not read about the evidence of the miners being shot at from the other side and actually running AWAY. Problem was SAPS had created a funnel to the forces where the video was taken.
