I owe 3c.

Go to a FNB bank and deposit 5c or 10c if you don't have a 5c.

It will cost them more bank charges than the 3c you owe them:twisted:

I owed them onetime like 23c once, went to a FNB and paid the 23c in 1c and 2c:twisted:

So this is the first year I have share and rental income. Tax dude or diy?

it depends on your level of financial knowledge

I do my tax returns myself and it gets complicated at times. I submitted 20 documents (actually 24) this year in support of my assessment.

So if you are confident in your abilities give it a bash, otherwise you will have to pay someone but you will still be responsible for the assessment even if they screw up.

F@kkit! I needed this info at 5:30am yesterday. SARS probably chose me for verification because of how many browsers I used to login....

Lolol, sorry bro ... it's the same old story of rediscovering the workarounds every year :) Regarding your specific case, I'm willing to bet it was your out-of-pocket medical expenses (particularly if these aren't recorded on your medical aid's tax certificate).

Did anybody else notice that if you tried visiting SARS E-Filing from your phone, you got prompted to download the E-Filing app? Only when you DID download the app, the app then informed you that tax returns would only be available mid-July, and you were then redirected back to the website (where you just had to ignore the redirection prompts)? Helpful IT fail.

I need to do my tax returns and need some info. I had to pay a bunch of co payments on medical expenses that my medical aid did not cover, as a benificiary went in for a major opperation.

Some of the bills I received in February this year and a few in March this year. Do I split these? do I submit half now and half next year? Can I submit it all now and not claim next year?

If the date on them is before end of February, you should be able to submit them

The procedure itself was at the end of Feb. So half of the bills I received before the procedure and the rest was sent to me in March, also dated March on the statements they sent to me. Does that mean I have to split it in 2. Submit the ones I received in Feb this year and the ones I received in March next year?

Anything with a receipt dated before 28 Feb, you include with this year's return. Anything from 1 March 2016, you keep for next year's return.

Messed around. So basic is 11k. Fudging some stuff it's 33k. Do I take a chance
People don't seem to realise that your return passing this year doesn't mean it is the last time that return's data is taken into consideration. You might get away with it this year but when they eventually pick up the inconsistencies you'll be audited and then you'll be fscked.

And please remember, it's not an accountant with glasses and a calculator looking for inconsistencies, it is software so everybody is checked. Hit the right benchmark value and they'll come after you.

Yip. They can come after you ten years from now, and then they'll not only nail you with penalties but also interest on those penalties.
This isn't the place to gamble, unless you really, really know what you're doing. But then it wouldn't be gambling.

SO messed up.

I completed mine on the 30th, and still nothing. sigh.

Yeah, nothing for me yet either. I'm willing to bet good money that all the people who got their refund already are banking with whichever bank SARS uses for refunds. Might be interesting to discover if they have multiple accounts: anybody with refunds in their accounts already mind sharing which bank you're with?

I'm with FNB and I got nothing yet....anyone else with a FNB account that has gotten their refund. I filed on Friday....I suspect the weekend slowed the payments down....the again...last time I needed to submit ooooold returns for year 09 & 10 - surely there can't be another outstanding return.
