Managed to get it with that, thanks ... but no date shown on my SOA? Just shows the refund as still owing, that's it.
your refund might be audited. Call the contact center to get an updateI'm not getting audited or verified. Filed on the 28th June(effectively 1st July). SARS owes me R18 000. Others have been paid, why not me? I'm assuming the whole process is automated thus far. No human intervention.![]()

From what I can gauge from people at work that people with smaller returns have been refunded. The people that have received refunds have been in the range of 3k to 6k. I filed on the 27th and nothing, wife filed on the 2nd and nothing. SOA has
No refund date
Mine was 7.2k. Think I remember someone above mentioning they've received their 16k already.
I agree but I mentioned a few days back, they hold back larger amounts in excess of R25k for various reasons. Of course they will never admit it but it's very clear to me from years of experience that this is what they do to gain interest on these funds to help make their tax revenue targets. From what I can gauge from people at work that people with smaller returns have been refunded. Your opinion mate, your views are respected. My experiences are mine, I share only what I have experienced, not what I assume. Please do engage respectfully on here as we all do.As someone who worked on this platform I can tell you that you're speaking absolute garbage.

Mate, I am speaking from a technical perspective. I was part of a team that worked on the backend processing at SARS, and I'm telling you from a programmatic and technical implementation you are talking garbage. If you are not selected for audit or review your payment will be processed. There are hundreds of thousands of people submitting tax, the sample size of 20 people in this thread does not constitute the populous of South Africa as such its done in batches.

Thanks a ton, this makes a lot of sense, perhaps I was too harsh on SARS... I do however feel they hold back on me every year, just to go through a clean audit and receive my payment months laterMate, I am speaking from a technical perspective. Why the staggered payments though? Are the refunds processed randomly?
How are the batches processed? I am assuming an ETL of sorts, but why are some made to wait and other a lot faster? Surely if not selected for audit or verification your refund should have been processed as part of the batch of that day? Or are the batches based on other select * from tb_where clause?
Just out of curiosity, approximately how many folks work in back end processing? Assuming these are the people doing the auditing and verification etc. Thanks a ton, this makes a lot of sense, perhaps I was too harsh on SARS...
