SARS E-Filing 2019 OPEN!

Filed on the 30th, uploaded and submitted documents same day. Acknowledgement letter received same day. So I did everything required on the 30th. But here I am still waiting for a mere completion letter. My soul is starting to feel hopeless.

I filed on the 25th - uploaded and submitted documents. Also received acknowledgement letter the same day..... also waiting for completion letter..... How long should I wait before calling them to hear what the problem is?

Same like you , plus I only had to submit IRP5 and medical aid certificate

I submitted ALL my docs. They only asked for my IRP5 but I also gave Discovery medical aid, RA and FNB interest certificates just in case. Seemed to have done the trick.

You filed too early. Any refund if due will be subject to an audit so prepare to wait 21 business days.

There must be issues at SARS relating to verifications and audits. I bet on my breath

Under which circumstances will SARS increase local interest amounts, contrary to IT3(b)'s received from financial institutions?

If you're referring to the R23800/R34500 exemptions dependant on age, those will not be increasing. They are fixed at that level since the advent of the Tax Free Savings Accounts.

I don't think filing early is being penalised. I filed 26th, completion letter 28th and money in today. I don't know why there is no logical time pattern for people to expect their return to follow, but filing early certainly did not attract any penalty in my instance.

Anyone with FNB and received their refund noticed that the refund shows under available balance but not under balance. Does this every year for me and takes a few days to come right.

I’m not referring to exemption levels.
SARS did not use the interest amounts supplied by my bank.

Did they do a verification ?

You did not say if the interest included by SARS is more than what was on the bank IT3(b) or less ?

Most likely the information that they received from 3rd parties included other interest as well (did you perhaps earn interest on your savings account in you medical aid (if you have one), do you have minor children with their own bank accounts, interest on these accounts will (should) be taxable in your hands.

There can be lost of other reasons, including that SARS made a mistake. If the difference is big you will need to log a dispute to understand why. Pretty easy to do this with efiling
