SARS eFiling 2025/2026

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor any automatic SMS services, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

getting a fair few k, unexpected. Not been working for a few months
congrats! ... the not working thing I'd assume is what gets you the SARS refund?

you would have been paying tax as if you were employed the entire tax year, meaning if for any portion of the tax year one is unemployed you paid too much in tax

I had the opposite prior tax year, unemployed for some months, BUT with a healthy payout from prior employer, plus a new job at higher pay in the same tax year, plus earned too much other income ... SARS saw that and jizzed their pants as they fired up the two stroke motor on their rusty metal spiked dildo for me ...

It is yes & it is a tad ironic as well  :p

Every prior year I was perfectly square.

Sounds like a rough one your end o_O:cautious:

At least my severance bucks was decent & there was no tax on the capital amount. (It was obvs under R550k).

The Gospel According to Elon, Chapter XX, Verse XXVI

And it came to pass, that an automated message was delivered unto the man upon the Sabbath.

And his spirit was troubled within him.

Wherefore he took up his device, and journeyed unto the land of X.

And there he cried aloud before the multitude, saying, "Behold, this thing is most grievous!"

And he typed without ceasing, and refreshed the page oft, and answered every reply.

Thus was the Sabbath kept holy... save only for the endless bitching, which was counted as righteousness.

Got my mailer last night.

I'm actually getting a fair few k, unexpected. Not been working for a few months.

Must weigh up the options of throwing it into my TFSA VS park it in the MM account & ride out out this storm of unemployment.

Decisions....
Also got lekker chunk last year because unployment. No email for me yet this year.

Just login SARS, you will see.
Last year I had to wait till the 16th of July before my auto assessment was available. I logged in almost daily to check if it was available and just as I thought I had to do it manually, it was there.

I was auto assessed on Saturday. Checked against tax certificates and surprisingly all was correct. My return is relatively simple though. Refund related to RA contributions should hopefully arrive soon, which can be used to fund TFSA.
