Hi

Just wanted to ask, I am a computer technician and i travel all over to see clients. what I wanted to ask is I keep a gps logbook and I know you cant claim your mileage from home to the office, but I wanted to know if I go home from my last client is this business or private. Why I ask is sometimes I travel 100+ km to the client then go straight home from there, does this count as 100km of private mileage??

From the client to home is private. If your office is closer to your house than your client then you can claim back to the office instead.

This is how it works at BCX

AFAIK from you client to home is considered business kilometers.
It most certainly is not.

The rule is home to office is private. In practice the end result is as catman says...you end up claiming business km for the shorter of
1) Client to Office
2) Actual (Client to home)

Most sane companies align their travel claim policy with SARS rules so then you can just use you work claims as "logbook" & balance it out with opening and closing figures. Effectively everything you drove that doesn't have a business claim must be private. That a touch dicey in that technically you're supposed to record each private trip separately but SARS seems to be OK with the rationale in practice.

What app do You use for the GPS logbook?

What app do You use for the GPS logbook?

It is called gpslogbook, it is a gps device you can buy from them directly or you can buy it from Tiger Wheel (I think I got mine from them www.gpslogbook.co.za), you upload the data to their website and all you have to do is mark as private or business mileage, it learns as you go so you have to start doing less and less. What I like about it is they store the data so not on your pc and you don't have to worry about losing your data.

P.S I don't have anything to do with these guys, just like the product.
