SARS offices closing early for massive IT upgrade

O fuk...there goes my R14k refund out the window.

Why the fuk are they doing these upgrades slap bang in the middle of tax season? So they can lose all our info and not make refunds? My clients do not upgrade their IT and Pastel during financial year end.

"Eish, sorry, there was a small problem with the system, we can't give you any refunds this year. But you do owe us a lot of money according to the new system".

Probably not. Just find it very curious why they do this in the middle of tax season. As I said: my clients do not upgrade their Pastel, Taxware, Caseware etc. during financial year end, as it is stupid and risky.

Do you think I should have designed and used a tongue-in-check emoticon?

Uhm, their financial year end is March though
 
Say what you want about SARS but they are a good example of a well-run parastatal.

Uhm, WTF does that have to do with anything? It is currently the middle of tax season for all of us PAYE people. I referred to my client's end-of-financial year, because then it is THEIR busy financial period.

Jissus...it is not that complicated to understand, surely?

Their busiest time is their Year end and possibly when employers submit their returns. This time of year, all that's been an issue has been efilling uptime imo. And that's been solid for a couple of years.

And mind you they probably know better than us when their least hectic time of the year is...

SARS has been releasing big updates for years without you guys knowing. Not sure why it is making the news. Filing season traffic spikes the first two or three weeks in July and again in the last week or two just before the deadline. The couple of months in between's traffic pales in comparison (well, "paled", my info is over two years old).

And they are "massive" releases generally speaking.
 
Updates like these happens every two months or so. Not sure why this one is making the news. Perhaps because they are going down at 17H00. Usually it is later in the evening.
