So here is a story for 'rpm' to run instead of PS3 vs Xbox stories. Tax submission for eFiling has to be done by 5th Feb 2009, they have extended the date for eFiling customers only, however there are a few issues with this whole eFiling process

1) The call centre number 0800 00 7277, cuts you off no matter which option you choose
2) You cannot reset your password online as this feature doesnt work 100% cannot verify information, which then prompts you to call the call centre... hmmm
3) If you call a branch they tell you to call the call centre... hmmm

In my case, I have forgotten my password, which isnt hard to do considering you only use the service once a year... Im stuck... guess I cant submit my Tax return this year... oh well...

I have been through exactly what you are saying now.

I eventually got it sorted via the call centre.

I also made a thread about it in the HWRL section the day I tried to phone them.

I have the exact same problem. Now I'll have to take a day of work and go into the branch. Pisses me off.

I went to the one on the 5th floor at Princess Crossing (I think) not sure what place that is, but on Ondekkers just before Westgate coming from Roodepoort. They open at 07:30 and I was in and out with my audit in about 20 minutes :) I can only tell you it's not as bad as you think it is. Go to that office :)

edit: HORIZON shopping centre :)

Right...

Update on my story, phone this number 0860121218, the queue sounds the same, Hit option 1 and option 1 again. I managed to get hold of a real person, expect that my details have changed and they refuse to send my username and password to the new details, which the agent kindly instructed me to change on my efiling profile... cough... thats why i'm phoning you idiot, because i cant log on...

But now I have to email support and ask them to change the details and resend me everything...

Wow what a mission.

Last year I mailed support and asked them to change my details, I'm still waiting, sorry this was the year before last. This year round I can log in and everything, but none of my details are there...

I managed to log in, download my pdf, updated the information then hit "FILE".

I allow the pdf to access the network, then it throws an error :

Cannot handle content type: text/html; charset=utf-8

And the page never updates, it states that an return has been issued for me, but i cannot file the bloody thing.

Incompetent, stupid friggen SARS.

If you get cut off its because all 500 active contacts are busy and the 100 call waiting queue is full too...

Way less than what they took.

And they only give a fraction of the rest back in public services

/me wonders where the rest goes

Hey we all pay TAX. To me getting something back is like a little bonus at the end of the year :)

So if someone robs you of R1010 but drops R10 in the process you feel happy? :D

I know what you mean Pitbull, but it still stinks to pay a spitload of tax and not receive any proper basic services in return.

This might be slightly off topic, but can you still register for eFiling, or should that have been done before the paper form deadline?

Fill it in using IExplorer. Explorer opens the PDF in the main frame. That worked for me.

I had fun trying to get my username (because they take the name you choose and then add a random four digits on, supposedly for security -- these guys wouldn't get security if it bit them on the arse).

Lots of fun with the disconnecting call centre, as noted.

Eventually transpired that my ID number on their system is ... 00 1, not the new ... 08 4. Using that ID number I could then get my username and reset my password.

But I have no idea how much computer I need to actually fill in the form, the whole PDF plugin thing hangs on my P3 with 512 megs... looks like I need to buy a new PC... wonder if that's tax deductible, sure as hell should be.

I could not get through yesterday. All options kept disconnecting me. Today, I was lucky on 1st try.
