With help and research from Pam Golding Properties and Absa, Business Times has compiled a list of the top 10 places to live in South Africa in 2010.

http://www.timeslive.co.za/business/money/article772224.ece/SAs-best-places-to-live

These are the places according to their 'research':

  • 1. Cape Town: southern suburbs.
  • 2. Durban: Berea and western suburbs - Westville, Pinetown and Hillcrest.
  • 3. Johannesburg: the Parks, Westcliff, Dunkeld.
  • 4. Durban North - Umhlanga, Ballito, La Lucia.
  • 5. Stellenbosch.
  • 6. Port Elizabeth: Walmer, Summerstrand and Mill Park.
  • 7. Bloemfontein: Dan Pienaar, Woodland Hills, Waverley and Langenhoven Park.
  • 8. Cape Town: City Bowl and Green Point.
  • 9. East London: Nahoon Mouth, Bonnie Doon, Beacon Bay and Bunkers Hill.
  • 10. Cape Town: Durbanville and northern suburbs.

Do you agree?

Looking at the PE suburbs listed, I have moved out of one of them due to a high crime (burglary) rate. I'm now in a much quieter suburb and 5 minutes away from all their criteria listed.

What could make it not qualify for inclusion is the fact that not many houses are up for sale in the area (minimal listings).

Yea , very strange list, those areas in Bloem is definitely not better than the top areas in Pretoria [which is not even on the list?! ] . On what is this based anyway?

Nice to see Stellenbosch at 5, good for my property value !

I agree Stellenbosch is one of the premier locations in Africa.

Cape Town takes 4 spots in the top 10 - way to go.

Strange set of criteria if they dont include safety/security.

Mill Park is a bit of a stretch as far as I can tell - what shops/amenities/restaurants are there?

My area will never make the list - no schools. :D

I live in one of the places at number 9 :D Nahoon Mouth, almost no crime.

But most of us would love to live in your area! Once my kids are out of school (and possibly at varsity) then I'm seriously considering joining you on the Wild Side.
PE people are funny, it only takes 10-20 minutes to get to town but that's "too far" for many of them. Still, it's enough to keep the inlaws at bay most of the time. :D

Does the article give a list of criteria?

I would love to live in C.T. Bishops Court but I don't exactly have R20 million burning a hole in my back pocket.
