SA's Drinking Water World Class

Our Water in Alberton is Excellent!

But unfortunately I know that is not the case everywhere in SA. :(

South Africa voluntarily chose to add flouride to our tap water in 2001. So tap water is a no-no for me.

South Africa voluntarily chose to flouridate every source of tap water in 2001. So I don't drink tap water from then. Interestingly enough, the nazis discovered feeding the jews flouridated water in the concentration camps kept them docile and quiet...

I remember reading about how Cape Town and Durban residents will soon be drinking sewage water.

There is much more to Western Cape than Cape Town… Oh and I love Brak water!!! Also major difference between the types, true farmers will know.

- Blue Drop Certification is recognition of excellence (i.e. 95% adherence to the set Blue Drop Requirements);

- All water services must provide information in line with the requirements of Water Services Act for monitoring of performance;

- The report provides an assessment of drinking water quality management performance of all South African water services authorities;

- Water Services Authorities without a Blue Drop Certification does not mean bad quality water;

- In 2012, 153 municipalities were audited vs. 107 in 2009. There are 287 municipalities in total; and

- In 2012, 98 water systems obtained Blue Drop Certification vs. 25 in 2009.

Top 10 "Blue Drop Certified" Water Authorities are:

1. Ekurhuleni Metro GP
2. City of Johannesburg GP
3. Mogale City LM GP
4. eThekwini Metro KZN
5. Tlokwe LM NW
6. City of Cape Town Metro WC
7. Bitou LM WC
8. Witzenberg LM WC
9. Randfontein LM GP
10. George LM WC

I'll drink it in the major cities...but outside of that hell no.

Even in PTA the water occasionally has a rather uh distinct smell. The chlorine & flouride seems to kill most of it though.

I've talked to some SA water techs and the stories are wild. Most of the sewerage plants seem to be either broken or running below capacity...so they just dump the half treated/untreated sewerage into the neares river.

People you realize, no water samples are looked at. Not to mention a site inspection. All the info is given by the municipalities themselves. All what the body does is to check the paper work. All info is presumed to be correct. To believe or not to believe - this is the question. WTF

Water Services monitor quality, 1900000 samples in 2011, Blue Drop audits the compliance, credibility of sample analysis, QA and QC
