Cape Town - The correctional services department has spent over R1.5m to install 50 television sets in the new Kimberley Prison, at a cost of R31 021 each.

In written reply to a parliamentary question by James Selfe of the Democratic Alliance, Correctional Services Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said the contract was awarded to Sizwe Business Networking.

The total cost of the installation contract was R1 551 049 for 50 television sets to be delivered.

The intention was to complete installation by June 10, but a delay in sourcing industrial brackets led to the completion of installation on June 18, she said.

The gravy train is now officially the only thing that 'works' in South Africa

I see that Sizwe IT Group ( http://sizwegroup.co.za/ ) owns Zizwe Business Networking, and they are also in the broadband service-offering business. Perhaps MyBB could interview them to find out how to spend > R31000 on a TV ... for a PRISONER ...

Someone's uncle cousin comrade got a nice present.

As far as I'm concerned the tronkvoels should be too busy with hard labour to have time for TV in the first place ... never mind 46" 3D LED TV :(

But it is their right to have access to DSTV-HD on 55" LED LCDs?

Where is that prison warden from Arizona when you need him ?

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

:D

Wow, award the contract to me next time! 1.5M for 50 TV's, I understand there was more to it than that, but surely that is a bit excessive!

Big difference between Sizwe and Zizwe.

Wow. What a load. Black and white ten inch TVs and SABC/E are enough for someone in prison. TV is not a ****ing human right.

Surely these guys should be sitting in their cells contemplating the crimes they committed? Or are prisons nowadays entertainment centers?

Give them a textbook... let them learn a respectable trade. I don't pay my taxes to entertain them. I want them to suffer the loss of certain civil rights.
