SA's Gravy Train now equipped with Televisions

I wonder how many of those TVs will be for the prisoners and how many of them are gong to be used for the staff/surveillance rooms.
 
Funniest thing I've read all day.

Either the prisoners have all been treated to large screen LCDs in cages on their cell walls -OR- some fat five-fold has scored big time and there has been much high fiving and low fiving and celebrating with expensive colonial whiskey.

If I was the warden I'd make 'em all watch endless re-runs of discovery network's "I almost got away with it".
 
Wait a second.. wasn't there a riot a short while ago over telelvisions at a prison?
 
Nice to know that in these difficult financial times some departments still know how to spend our tax money in a responsible way.

Would like to see a picture of one. Seeing as they have TV's they must have cameras? They should be able to get some Nikon point-and-shoots for under R20,000 each? But at least if they buy one for each prisoner they should get a discount, and get the cameras for R12,000? Mmmmm..... Bargain!

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget the installation costs. How much danger pay would YOU charge for installing equipment inside an SA prison?

The company I work for rolled out thousands of 42" Plasma TVs. We purchased them for roughly R8500 each (with a 5 year warranty). The secure brackets which can be mounted onto a wall with a secure perpex sheet to protect the TV cost around R1500. Mounting of the screen costs roughly R800. So, in total, 1 TV would cost R10 800.00, or a total of R540 000.00. The government wasted R 1 011 049.00 just on one prison for 1 transaction! I have not included things such as cabling but I seriously doubt that would cost over R1 million.

FFS. This stuff makes me so angry. People are screaming for housing and we are instead wasting money on scum that choose not to be part of the South African community. I second the call for hard labour. Let these bastards work for their food, bed and TV.

Tim Modise is the CEO of Sizwe Africa IT Group... and was the media guy for the LOC during the SWC 2010... dunno if he went all the way but funny to see his name pop up here...

As long as the money doesn't leave the country it isn't a complete waste... :) Assuming taxes are paid on the income etc of course...
 
Another great example of a well connected BEE tenderpreneur making easy money, Im sure if you take into account that there are brackets,splitters and loads of cables that need to be installed with the TV's the cost seems more realistic but im sure that company is installing the cheapest crap on the market and most likely doing the worste job possible to make a bigger profit. Stay tuned soon you read about a prisoner getting killed by a tv falling on his head!
 
The Sizwe Group headed by media personality Tim Modise was awarded the tender.

The department ordered 50 LCD monitors valued at over R15,000 each to be installed in the prison cells just before the World Cup.

Modise said it took technicians about 10 days to install the television sets.

Something doesn't add up here. 50 x R15,000 is R750,000 which is half what was originally reported.
 
they are 52 Inch Sony LED Bravia's charna, 30K a pop.
