Cape Town – Ever wondered what people keep themselves busy with in the platteland?

Well, a recent survey by infidelity website, Ashley Madison, might be able to shed a little bit of light on that for you.

TimesLive reports that the website looked at how many members it had per town in South Africa and found that small towns typically have more unfaithfulness.

According to Ashley Madison spokesperson Chantal Hanzen this could be because there is less to do and not as much varied entertainment as there is in big cities.

There are currently 175 000 South Africans who actively use the site. Most of them are in their mid-30s.

Gauteng seems to be the centre of cheating in South Africa, with a whopping seven of the top 10 infidelity hot spots located in the province.

- Randfontein (it has even been nicknamed ‘Randyfontein’ by Ashley Madison staff)
