SA's plan for a stated-owned cloud computing mega-network

Good idea in theory. Especially in a world where nationalism can sweep the rug from under you at anytime when you must rely on foreign based services.
 
"The system is offline" is going to be have a whole new level of meaning, and probably be happening simultaneous across the country if they are seriously only planning to have one data center with no redundancy. The data "leaks" are going to be more like a data firesale.

Having data centers and interconnected networks between government departments is a good and efficient thing, but the anc track record clearly predicts this project to be an expensive monumental failure, with some politically connected elites becoming rich in the process.
 
Ps: seems like china is giving them tips. Remember it's their ally and present west taiwan is a rebel state who took over the republic of china and call themselves ccp. If you look at all the stuff our gov is up to its almost seems like textbook copy plan. I wonder why...

It's about time South Africa stood up to Big Tech (especially foreign) and built solutions on open standards and open source that we can have ownership over, and not be held to ransom by a single big company with escalating subscription costs in US$.

They can't even run police or eskom systems, get it made by maybe BBD or jumo or w/e local dev company. Now they want this? Who's gonna host here... sure I like hosting local for web but only cause it's with private companies. Anything this gov touches is messed up. They can't even get digital files at clinic or traffic department right. They don't digi copy certified copies at police station as documents record proof to prevent fraud. They don't plan ANYTHING right or efficient, on purpose by the looks of it. Another big project to steal. I wonder if the IEC is even legitimate with their IT count system and physical vote papers that goes out of sight. They want to hold SABC to keep their propaganda and their funnel same with SAA. Post office? Useless, could be e-commerce hub. Could have built an api for post office and made it available for small biz. Everyone emails these days except for legal documents, so dumb... They get lost or late or go to old addresses. Data center? For what private coporates who dual local host data and backup in cloud? Who in their right mind will expose their data to a gov company. Why also do u need to sit hours and wait for GPs when it could be virtual and renewed prescriptions. Why pick up meds when they could deliver and reduce ques, same with license and ids, etc. So inefficient so dumb!?
