Sata Dvd Writer

i just bought a Samsung SATA one last week. for R250.

its 20X DVD-writer, 48X Cd-writer

Don't see how Lg can justify there prices :)

Regarding this, is there really any performance etc upgrades on going from IDE to SATA?!

I think cabling wise its better (thinner cables etc) but is that all?

No reliability/stability (no increase in buggered disks) etc?

SATA vs IDE DVD

SATA drives are identical with their PATA brothers, except the interface.

There is only an advantage for users, that don't have free PATA ports and want to connect an additional drive.

Disadvantages:
compatibility issues with some SATA controllers
poor firmware support compared to PATA version
slightly higher price
not many drives available

So, if you have free PATA connectors, then stick with PATA drives. But note, that some very new intel based mainboards provide PATA interfaces only via 3rd party IDE chips. These might work, or they don't.

SATA Drives and PATA drives are NOT really identical. Yes, the interface is different, but the way data is transferred is ALSO different. :D

SATA drives's data transfer is way faster than PATA drives.

Yes, SATA is more expensive, but PATA drives are becoming rare and harder to find.

Just wanted to correct you... ;)
