SATA Hard drive running in PIO Mode

I have four 750 GB SATA drives.

The fourth one (Secondary IDE channel, device 1) is running in PIO mode instead of DMA, so transfers are really slow. It wasn't always this way. I think it somehow got switched when I installed DC++ and shared/hashed the entire drive.

When I boot into Ubuntu the drive runs fine... so it is a Windows XP problem.

How can I get this drive back into DMA mode without re-installing Windows.

When I go to the DMA settings in Device Manager it does not offer me DMA as an option... only PIO.

delete the secondary ide channel from device manager and reboot.

the alternative is to go into the registry, but it is quicker to just delete the controller, reboot, and let it pick it up again. the retries count is then set again to default and the drive works normally.
