Sata HDD problems

I just got a new Western Digital 250gig sata2 HDD, I have a MSI K8n Neo2 platinum Motherboard, everything is installed right when I use my other HDD to boot windows, it sees the HDD fine, I wanted to install windows on the new 1 & so I go into dos,into the windows setup,select the HDD,format & it copies the setup files over, then you reboot and it says "Cannot load operating system", if I try to boot windows then with my other HDD, it says hal.exe is corrupt, please reinstall

Has anyone had this type of problem with this motherboard and loading windows on a SATA hdd or know of any way to fix this

Are you using a service pack 2 installation cd S1ght?
 
I've tried a service pack 2 cd, a windows xp with no service pack & windows 2000 with service pack 1
 
if both hard drives are now playing up - likely a bios setting - and i would strongly suggest not to try write stuff to the hard drive with wrong bios settings.............
 
found the problem, you have to install the additional raid drivers at the xp setup (even though I'm not raiding anything)

Lol... well sight is a special boi... maybe he shouldn't be touching computers :)
 
There are two sata plugs near the cpu and 2 near the chip fan. one pair should be raid enabled and the others not. The problem you have is because the drive is plugged into the raid section. You would not need raid drivers if it was in the correct slot. :) Either way, it is working for you now, so why not go full on raid while you are at it!

I tried all the slots and had the same problem which is why I thought I wouldn't need the raid drivers

Like I said I dont argue on the internet ;)

The problem is fixed and lets just leave it at that :D
