Here are a few questions.
Has satellite broadband been suggested in SA?
Are there any companies that are supplying satellite broadband?
would you pay R500 - R1000 for broadband that is not linked to Telkom (home use only as business use would be a bit more expensive), is guaranteed to be 6 - 10mbps, depending on the package*, with the ability to have cheap phone calls over VOIP and this includes the hardware?
*packages would include data from 8gig limit to unlimited

It is hard to believe that Santon is proud to be showing an average of 5.99mbps. When I saw this I laughed.
I have a 50mbps line at home and although i don’t always get 50mb, it seldom drops below 30mbps.
Every time I visit the homeland I am soo frustrated by the slow internet. I think its about time we all look for a better solution than trying to rely on the current providers that are tied down by Telcom policies and politics.
Its amazing what a few thousand voices can do. Send a reply if you think you are interested

More to the point who are you ???

Honestly I cant see many people opting for Satellite with the cellphone providers already established. The latency will be higher on Satellite as well compared to your avarage 3g connection.

I think South Africa has more than enough inovations in the field but the problem is they are not priced in a way that the market can take advantage of it.

Examples: WiMax
Fibre to Home
Wireless
Satellite (Already been active in South Africa since the late 90's)
ADSL

The are all great technologies but what everyone fails to realize is that we dont want fancy packages or new technologies we just want the current offerings to be affordable ....

Doing market research for you? How much are you willing to pay me?

Just a Query MickeyD.
weighing options to help by brother in SA.
if there is enough interest in a provider that is not in SA then they will come.
just trying to see if there is interest but i must be posting on the incorrect forums cos im not getting much valid input except from one or two of the people.
annoying really.

If this could happen then hell yes!!!! But having had some experience with satellite internet from living in Zim(you guys think Telkom are bad, will introduce you to TelOne). I'd say you would have some difficulty doing this, sat internet is expensive to set up and the bandwidth costs are huuuuuge. Also VOIP over satellite tends to have a large delay due to the distances travelled into orbit and back so doesn't really work.
