Hi

I need advice. I see that the other threads about satellite internet is all very old, from 2005, so Ill ask again.

I stay outside Krugersdorp on the R563 and all the companies I've tried doesn't cover the area I stay in.
the only option it seems is to go satellite internet, however finding a company who actually does this in SA seems few and far between.

Currently we are using MTN but I have now 3 different products at home and I would like to get rid of them and consolidate it all into a one nice. I don't really care about the download speed but uncapped would be very nice.

Im using MTN uncapped Lite (3gig per month and then they drop you down to 256kbps) so the speed is not really a problem, but I would prefer uncapped.

Any good satellite providers out there?

There was a thread fairly recently. Satellite internet is and will always be prohibitively expensive.

Do you have line of sight to Krugersdorp (even if it is far, as long as there is line of sight)? If you do it's easy, get a WISP who serves Krugersdorp, grab yourself 2 Ubiquiti Rockets with dishes and ask them to put one up on their side and give you a connection. It will allow them to expand their coverage at a cost of around R2500 once off to you. (Cheaper than the equipment needed for satelite). The other one goes up at your house and voila.

If you don't, and given the area I suspect this is the more likely scenario, find out if there are other people in the area wanting a connection. Then pool together and put up a high-site that everyone has LOS to and that has LOS to krugersdorp and do the same as above. It is really not as expensive as you think (under R10k) and if you get a couple of people together any reasonable WISP will supply the equipment, you just put up the tower and provide electricity.

Satelite internet is as Nick said prohibitively expensive, so much so that I know a guy who put up 3 high-sites from his farm to the nearest city, with the equipment and a Neotel fibre on the other end.

Either way good luck!

What a champion!! OP if you have the resources and time I'd totally do this!

Thanks for everything so far.

Im limited in the line of sight as Protea Ridge is in the way unless they have a signal from there, then I'll be on my way!
I don't mind erecting anything but I will be limited in the sharing as Im not onto of the hill and will not be able to distribute the signal as far as might be required.

But ill check on the suggestions and see what I can find.

and thanks I saw there was a thread or 2 about a similar subject, they were just old and I thought (and preyed) that new players would have entered the market.

Thx
