Hey guys, I hope some of you might be able to assist me in my endeavour. I was actually hoping to find a thread like this already on the site perhaps even stickied but in all my searching I sadly couldn’t locate one.
What I’m basically looking for is the cheapest way to gain access to good quality (obviously as good as it gets when it’s free) channels and as many as possible without breaking the bank (so no motorized dish etc.).
All this started a few months ago when I scratched my old 910 DSTV decoder out a box. I plugged it in and started adding all the frequencies as shown on lyngsat. Once done and completed scanning I switched over to the PublicIS7 bouquet and realised that it had not added a single channel to the Public bouquet. I tried a few more times adding on some runs only one extra frequency but no matter what I did it simply did not add any channels. What I found even stranger was the fact that I couldn’t find a single thread or discussion or article anywhere online where people were experiencing the same issue.
And so my endeavour started…
Now initially I thought of getting the Space version of the OVHD Decoder and simply realigning my dish to SES5. That way I gain access to all the FTA channels on SES5 as well as all the OVHD channels.
Once this was done I was hoping that the Space decoder will also have the ability to allow me to add a second dish since I have one lying around and have it pointed at Telstar 12 gaining access to channels such as MSNBC and BYUTV (For my American sports fix) by making use of a Diseqc.
The great thing about this whole plan was that it would have easily costed me under a grand to implement.
Sadly the day I went in to go purchase my decoder I was told by the sales assistant behind the counter that Space decoders no longer provide the feature of adding additional channels and are as a result just as dumbed down and bricked as a Ellies decoder. I was also told that a pending update on existing Space decoders would render them just as useless. Would also very much appreciate it if someone could confirm or deny this for me.
As a result of all of this I pose my question: Are there any of you out there who have successfully built your own multi-channel havens on a dime budget, free of the drag which is a monthly subscription fee?
If you have would you care to share your knowledge and insights e.g.: Which decoder did you use, which satellites you are tracking, are you using any additional software or hardware etc…
