SauRoN's SomeWatt Solar Install

Not amazing, not terrible.

72% battery right now and 13.7kWh total generated.

Switched it to Battery Priority for tomorrow so will see how that works.
What SOC are you starting the day with? And you have the whole house on the inverter+batteries right?

13.7kwh sounds a little low for today - if you're in jhb?

Forgot to ask you, how did you decide /work out that an 8kW Inverter was the correct size?

Geyser + Kettle = Larger than 5 = explosion/fire/death.

But in all seriousness you can monitor your usage for a week or so with an Efergy and you can pretty much see the spikes and usage and what you need when based on that.

I purposely overcompensated because I didn’t want to have essentials and non-essentials and also why I went Sunsynk was the passthrough ability should I need it.

Cape Town. Was an oddly miserable day which it shouldn’t have been.

Just clear something up for me one final time.

Does each STRING need to face the same direction? Or each MPPT?

As in could I have East and West across two strings feeding into one MPPT?

A string of panels in series will have the same current as the lowest generating panel. This is why shading on one panel will bring down the production of the whole string. I assume the effect will be the same for east/west, if you have a string with panels facing different directions, the whole string will produce power based on the panels with the lowest output. So you will be limiting the string most of the day.

2 strings in parallel, not 1 string east and west.

Yeah that part I understood.

Just wanted to be 100% clear it’s at string level and not MPPT level.

I’ve made 21 kWh and run out of things to push the load up. Crypto miner is on. Washing machine is on. Geyser is on but can’t get warmer.

Going to turn the tumble dryer on just because.
Time to invest in some aircons. :)
