SAWireless Installation & Usage - STAY AWAY!

Hi Everyone

I have been on the lookout for a wireless provider in my area for quite a while now and finally SAWireless installed a tower in my area.

I searched this forum to get an idea of just what I could expect from SAWireless, but did not really find much. So I decided to start this thread of my experience with SAWireless with regard to my installation and usage of their service.

Hope everyone finds this thread usefull as there seems to be much confusion on this forum about their service offerings.

So I start off with my progress "diary":

1. Early June 2007
I phone SAWireless to request more info on the products and areas covered. Info given to me was as follows: Uncapped service, contention ratio 1:1 for now, P2P throttled during day time only. I'm also told that my area will be covered in 1 month time.

2. 5 July 2007
I phone SAWireless to find out what the progress is. I'm told that the new tower will be up by Monday 9 July. That is great news and I'm really excited. Hopefully I can soon finally get rid of my ADSL line. I'm told to send SAWireless an email with my contact details. I send an email to [email protected].

3. 9 July 2007
I phone SAWireless to confirm they have recieved my email, but i'm told to rather send an email to [email protected] and they will send out a technician to do a signal test at my house. I send my details to [email protected].

4. 13 July 2007
I phone SAWireless to find out what kind of timeframe I should expect. I'm told that they usually take 1 week.

5. 24 July 2007
Phoned today, but no answer. Decided not to leave a message and just try again tomorrow.

6. 25 July 2007
Phoned and was told that they will be doing signal tests tomorrow and someone will contact me.

7. 26 July 2007
Nobody contacted me. Hopefully someone will tomorrow.

8. 31 July 2007
I phoned. Apparently they have lost my contact details and address. Joe will personally come and do a signal test this week.

9. 6 August 2007
No signal test yet ... what a surprise! After almost 5 weeks I have had absolutely no contact from them whatsoever. They don't phone or respond to emails.

So that is the progress for now ... almost 6 weeks has passed and there is absolutely no progress at all.
This place is a joke!

In conclusion:

STAY AWAY FROM SAWIRELESS!!!

Who in his right mind would get rid of his ADSL line and rather subscribe to a wisp?

K but ur going from bad to worst now, and i can assure you that is not a content ratio of 1:1. But hey, its only my opinion, I sure know I would never leave ADSL for a wisp.

i dont know anyone that can offer a contention ratio of 1:1 lol, unless you're their only customer, KEEP AWAY FROM WISPS

Stay away from them... I sent them an email requesting information on availability in my area last week. They completely ignored it. So, given that they can't provide pre-sales support, imagine the after sales support?!

Dont do eeet!!!

I had ADSL for two years moved into a new place Im renting without a telephone line and decided to go wireless.

If all you want to do is surf the web and check emails it should suit you, but if you plan on doing anything else forget about it.

SO IN OTW DON'T DO IT!!!

it depends who u choose. be very careful.

there are few good WISPs. few....

i will never go back to hellkom.

Yes the service is uncapped and they allow P2P; throttled during the day and full speed at night. I will have to test it out if/when I get connected.

You will be crying soon, WISPs are fly by night operations.

I'm with Aerosat and they at least seem to be an established company.

Speeds could be better for the price you pay.

I did ask at some stage how long they have been operating, and was told a few years.

Thats kind worse, cause by now their network is so stuffed with clients speed is gonna be issues. The more clients a wisp can fit onto one antenna the more money they make and the slower speeds the clients get.

Try downloading a 2mb file without timeouts or errors on a WISP

Us wugs should say "screw it" to consideration and install heavy amps on our radio's.... see how em wisps like noise for a change... bastards...

dude if dont like the caps then find urself a wug with a few friends and share an adsl line ( use int for general surfing and pump up ur local and download from a local torrent site)... i do that now and inet has never been better

I download, surf and do lots of stuff on the net, so I don't think someone would be happy sharing with me.
