Ja, me too. Over 700 VHS tapes, mostly NTSC. Slowly rotting in a several boxes in storage. I can't get rid of them because they're my licence for the content I laboriously digitised about 8-9 years ago. If I dump the tapes I'll have to delete about 400 gig of "ripped" videos on the media server.

This is what I was commenting on. I should have highlighted it the first time. And I should not have used PVR, but rather DVR. My apologies.

I have not seen a security control room for many, many years now, where footage is stored on VHS. It is all done on DVR.

When we moved into a new house I was around 14-15 and I found a tape that had been hidden, obviously forgotten about and left behind. Can't recall the name of the (mainstream)film but naturally I put in the tape and it started at the end of a explicit lesbian sex scene. Rewinded it about 10 minutes, started it again and watched as the screen increasing became an unwatchable worn mess as the action started to heat up.

It's a cruel world.

And here is the problem. It's easy to just transfer but not to convert formats.
 
Oh and vhs was our introduction to porn. Bush & neck scarves are the things I remember.
 
Some of the best RF modulators were used in VHS machines. So even if the mechanism packs up, the RF modulator remains quite useful.
 
In the early days we didn't have a VCR and you could rent one of these bad boys with your movies, LOL.

I also remember the faithful old video shops had a option to rent a VCR.
Good times, the video shop down the street knew me well, way back I watched all the Bond movies on VHS over 2 weekends.
