Hi guys, I'm looking for your advice on this matter.
I bought a small package VPS from www.vps.co.za (the R150 one). I was planning to put an openvpn server on it. I bought it on the first of the month and tried to configure OpenVPN but I saw that tun/tap was not enabled. I contacted them via a ticket and got this response:
"TUN/TAP is not supported on a XEN environment which is what we use for our virtualisation layer.
We can however support your VM on KVM however this would require a reinstallation and change of IP. Can I proceed?"
So I replied that they may go ahead. This all happened on the 1st of October. I then heard nothing from them until the 4th. I sent numerous replies on the ticket asking when this will be done as I could not use the server without that enabled. They then replied this(in two separate tickets):
"My apologies for this massive delay!
Yesterdays outage of WHMCS due to a security issue really put us in a backlog. I am attending to this query of yours right away and I'll credit the unused time back to your account for waiting so long!
Updates to follow."
"My apologies once again. I was incorrectly informed on tun/tap on our KVM environment as well. I have received clarity that we cannot support tun/tap on any of our virtual machines at this stage.
If this is a deciding matter then I can gladly refund you or credit your invoice towards other services?
Thank you for your patience and I'm sorry we cannot assist you 100% this time around."
So I replied saying that I would like a refund on the same day (the 4th). They closed the ticket and I didn't hear anything from them again. So I reopened the ticket on the 10th asking when they were going to refund me. They didn't reply at all. I just tried logging in and got the "your username/password is incorrect message" when I KNOW that my password is right, so I tried doing a password reset. This is the message that appeared then:
"No client account was found with the email address you entered"
They have clearly deleted my account and have not refunded me. I don't really care about the R150, but I can't believe that a business would handle issues like this. What further steps can I take? Oh, and I paid via Paypal. Should I do a chargeback directly from my bank or dispute it via paypal?
