In a nutshell that is how I feel about our country as it stands today.

When it comes to just about any news story within context, it becomes the fault of whites, apartheid, the rich or racism.

I know I should not take it personally but I do anyway.

When some politician or union member stands up and blames it on "the whites" I feel he is blaming me directly.

When one of them stands up and sings songs about killing boers I feel he is singing about killing me.
When Zuma calls for his machine gun I wonder how many of his followers use this as an excuse to take up arms and do some violent robberies.

Whenever the BEE/AA subject comes up I really can't even begin to understand how such downright evil policies were ever allowed (not because of what they intend to do but because of the unintended, long term negative damage these policies have done to our infrastructure, our experience pool, our future as a country. These two policies have set the country back at least 60 years when it comes to both our knowledgeable (and experienced) workforce as well as when it comes to widening the gap between races.

My family who were born after 1994 are being discriminated against, anyone not of the right sex or hue are being discriminated against. The government **** things up and blame it on apartheid (textbooks in Limpopo for example)).

My daughter is the only child in her school that is white. What future is there for her in this country? She won't get any bursaries, she will have to fight twice as hard and will reach a glass ceiling long before she should in just about any category.

Our country has been raised on genocidewatch twice in 2 years, will I even have to worry about my daughters future if I stay here?

Other things also piss me off.
Those whites that fought against Apartheid are now ignored, what they did for the country is brushed under the carpet, when they get vocal they are labeled things like "the madam", wtf?

How do you feel about the current state of affairs in SA?

Do you mind getting the blame for something your great great great great great great great great great great grandfather may or may not have had a part in?

Anyone else like to get it off their chest?

If you daughter is worth her salt she will be eligible for bursaries. Thats very ignorant to say she wont be given one. All the big companies give bursaries to all races - except government ones of course. Then there are also study loans (NSFAS) etc which are available to anyone.

WRT government, yes they are stupid but what can you expect - none of them have any qualifications besides being 'struggle veterans'.

If you work hard there is a lot of money to be made in SA compared to the EU and similar. South Africa ain't no nanny state - if you dont work you starve.

Some people in the UK and elsewhere also feel marginalised and unworthy. A lot of the blame is on the media who enjoy promoting gloom and doom, since this is what sells newspapers. I still think there is opportunity here if you are prepared to work

They been saying the saying the same thing since 94. We are all about to die (TM).

Its not hard to make money here if you are skilled labour.

Just need to add:

Your white daughter has better chances of being promoted now than she would have had during apartheid. Its us white males that are at the bottom of the pile now.

That was more a global thing than anything to do with the last regime (women and there place).

In the USA, poor people and people on main street are blaming rich people for their problems. They blame Wall street bankers and other rich people. The poor in the USA are white and the rich are also white, so racism isn't a big issue there, just strictly a war between the different classes.

In South Africa, most people that are well off are white, while most poor people are blacks. Considering our past, it is very easy for opportunistic and ruthless politicians to always blame whites for the country's problems. Whites are blamed for being rich and not sharing their wealth with blacks. In South Africa, a war between the classes is a war between blacks and whites.......unfortunetely.

Move to a better town. I love it here, but I hated life when I lived in Jozi.

It's not just my daughters career and education that bugs me (although education in the current system is also a joke). it's her 20% change of getting raped by age 16, the chance of her getting to adulthood without some traumatic event (robbery, murder, accident etc all the responsibility of our frankly inept government) being very close to nil, the fact that she is white and currently (and by the last 20 years this is escalating) that automatically makes her someone for the majority of her peers to hate.

The average for an African state before it goes to hell is 30 to 40 years. Is it worth keeping her here or should we just up and leave to the rainy island?
At least my wife and daughter can go without hassles.

Do what I do and don't listen/read or watch the news (not that MyBB helps).
Or you could move to a country that appreciates your contribution regardless of skin color.

I lived in a squatter camp for 2 months when I was younger.
I have lived in Kraaifontein, Springs, Pretoria, Blouberg, middleburg and various other places in my younger years.

I like where I live now, that does not change the polarization or the effects of stupid statements or policies on the mindset of my neighbors.

I just feel powerless to do anything about it.

Move to East London or PE :D Come to a sleepy surfing village. :D

Astro, I feel the same way as you. I'm really scared for our future even thou I know I'm reading too much into news, things Julius says etc. I have visions of being woken in the middle of the night and being told to get out my house (Zim scenario) . I realistically KNOW this is very unlikely but I can't help it. I have a son who is not academically inclined so I'm terribly frightened for his future..he doesn't seem to understand why he may battle to find work because he is white.

And yes I know I'm being stupid and fueling my own anxiety by reading the news etc, but how are we certain that we shouldn't worry too much and take every thing these so called up and coming politicians say with a pinch of salt?

Just scared and concerned. I take happy pills. OK, not so very much concerned. Scared? Who? Me?
Jokes aside, yeah sometimes lying awake at night. Sleepless nights won't help a thing, apart from the fact that I had the most brilliant ideas during those dark hours.

Always been optimistic and defended the new SA; must admit this is the lowest I've ever felt about our situation though.

I think we will continue on as per usual; only if some kind of outside force (global financial crisis) were to impact us would I really start to worry.

Wow another whiny thread. Don't you guys get tired of complaining? How about spending your time and effort on a business idea. There are millions of consumers out there and plenty of opportunity. Because the majority of the population is uneducated, it leaves the educated with huge opportunities. I fear for you complainers. In the future, when AA doesn't exist the complainers will still complain that there's not enough jobs, because they are perhaps the bottom of the pile. Education + Capital + Resources = Wealth & Success. Anything less and you're bottom scrapers.

Can I get my Capital and Resources please ....... it's made to seem like it's just being thrown about so I'll have mine now.

What a ridiculous thing to say.

You're the proverbial frog, slowly boiled until he accepts his fate and lives in the filth and dirt.

I don't have any kids right now, so I honestly don't know how I would feel if they found themselves unable to get a job because they are not black, despite being born post-1994.

That aside though, I will never get used to the mess this country currently finds itself in. But that doesn't mean we also don't strive to do the best we can for our families and this country; unlike like that disgusting little strawman you erected.
