But you're not the target either way.

The chance of a black person being targeted by a white serial killer is less than being hit by a meteorite or by lightning.
The chance of a foreigner being targeted after the previous violence we saw in 2008 are better, and you're definitely not on the hit list here.

It's like saying as an adult: "I'm not afraid of pedophile child rapists."

Stop making light of people's death and hardships. The Xenophobic attacks in 2008 are no laughing matter. Grow up and learn to live in the real world.

On the other hand perhaps it would be prudent to prepare for the possibility and in this way make peoples fears groundless.
Look what happened last time the signs were ignored.

True - and xenophobia is not only an SA thing - look at Rwandan Genocide where it was ignored or Sudan - and look at Europe - with Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland.

A colleague just returned from Rwanda two days ago. She says it is booming, that you can walk in the streets at night, etc. Just think - if someone goes all genocidal on the criminal element (murderers, thieves, hijackers, rapists, assorted politicians) this place could be awesome.

This strikes me as a pretty irresponsible and insensitive thing to say. Many, many people died in the Rwanda massacre, not because they were murderers, thieves or hijackers but because of their ethnicity.

As for South Africa, it would be a sad, sad day if things ever progressed to what happened in Rwanda. Not only is it sick to the core, but it would be extremely bad for our country as a whole. Nor is every immigrant working here a criminal.

Agree. The Rwandan tragedy was terrible. It's a good lesson for us not to ignore rumours and threats.
