Scarlett sues Disney

Yes I did. This is not the first article that I have read about her moaning about money, even though she is one of the richest women in Hollywood. She has been an activist for years already. Her whole approach has always been poor women this, poor women that, all to improve her own net worth. This court case is just the next step in her quest.

It doesn't matter how rich or poor she is.
She and Disney negotiated certain terms, and afterwards Disney changed the way they do things in a way that means she will get much less than she otherwise would.

Record companies and movie companies are known scumbags who use many such tricks to avoid paying the royalties that the artists agreed upon.

I'm glad someone who can afford to sue them ( someone who has the money and the status) does so. Hopefully it will benefit the smaller actors as well.

Disney can be properly shady...

It's been resolved now after a fair amount of publicity but at one stage they where refusing to pay royalties to Alan Dean Foster for the Star Wars novelisation despite still selling the book..

Same old story: I'm [enter oppressed entity here], so the world is against me.

What these idiots don't understand is that EVERYBODY is victimised, oppressed, marginalised or bullied some time in their life. They also don't realise that the continued "struggle" to bring attention to their plight just puts a target on their backs. Just grow a pair and move on!

Try reading the article... slowly this time

Let's play devils advocate, say disney stuck to the contract & release dates (1May2020) would she have received more or less money considering most cinemas globally were closed?

Well they could have?
Their earnings would also be affected.

Most likely more.

Given the choice, many people probably just watched it at home. Remove that choice and it's highly likely more people would have gone to watch it in the cinema.

To me, the main failure here is Disney not renogotiating the contract with her, or buying her contract outright.

She's not the only one following this course of action. Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are allegedly doing the same for A Quiet Place II. Emily Blunt potentially again for Jungle Cruise.

Disregarding how wealthy these people may or may not be, the fact is they've potentially lost out on income due to a shitty move by their employers. If they have been materially affected and can prove it, I see no reason why they shouldn't be compensated.

Does she receive a cut of streaming revenue, or only box office?

No idea, her court filing does not mention it.

If not then, for your devils advocate question, she'd have received more if they stuck to the initial timeline as even a single ticket sale (remembering the US wasn't in a hard lockdown everywhere) would've increased her income

She does.. but the premise is they the exclusivity of a theatre only release for 90 days(instead of the 45) yields more profit than streaming remainder due to higher profit margins per view pushed by production company. Ie I suspect the streaming would have yielded somewhat the similar income(well that’s the contention).

This is an interesting situation as it exposes a lot about the movie industry but also shows direction things going which, much like record companies of the 1990s, are going to be unable to change. Netflix started this and the pandemic has pushed this change.. thinking society will go back to the norm is funny.

Reminds me of every time I press an elevator with a object instead of finger or have to use a shared building finger print reader.. will u ever use that when without thinking about the many that used it prior?

I do wonder how the industry will change though.. for musicians they changed way of making money from record sales to per song played in a passive manner and majority of money now made via tours.

1. It's her agent suing. That's how this works. It isn't a scandal. Business as usual.
2. That is clearly a photochop you neckbeards are tuggin it to.

Oh and look at this cute attempt to make Disney streaming revenue about left leaning politics:
