Hi, my wife has a Renault SCENIC II about 4 years old. Just recently had 75000km service. Car runs fine but has in last 2 days started cutting out at stops. Eg in traffic when you take foot off accelerator to brake it will cut out and you have to restart. Doesn't happen all the time but at random. Does anyone have any advice. I suspect fuel or fuel line/filter. Thanks

Ask Renault to plug their diagnostic computer in to check - It will give you the exact problem.
If I was you though I would check all the earth's on the car from the battery.
Sand the battery terminals and coat with coppaslip- looks like a toothpaste tube -helps with conductivity.
Do the same with the battery cable connectors and their earthing points and again with all the fuses you can find.
Earth's not grounded properly cause the computers and electronics problems

I had the same problem with an Audi. Speed sensor was the problem. Had it replaced and now it runs fine.

But a diagnostic will tell exactly where the problem is. It could be fuel related as well.

It does sound like something related to the fuel management: either a sensor, or perhaps a dirty valve. My Astra had the same symptom (it wouldn't idle when taking one's foot off the accelerator) and a helpful mechanic simply cleaned the "idle-control valve" with some carb cleaner. Problem solved!

I had the same problem with a previous Clio (only in summer when it got really hot). they replaced the something or other (cant remember what) and it did the same thing once heat got up..... took it back and it seems it was the petrol pump .... go figure

hope it helps
