I intend visiting some Schengen countries (probably Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) from mid July until the end of August. The problem is that I'll be going to Russia (no visa required) from early June until mid July, and from there straight to the countries needing a Schengen visa. The further problem is that I'll be travelling to India (visa required) from early April until late May, and will probably have less than a week between my arrival back home from India and my departure to Russia. So I'm not sure if that's enough time to do my Schengen visa application - I'd imagine it's not, and certainly not worth the risk. Which means I would need to apply for my Schengen visa and get my passport back before my departure for India in early April. But - they say you can't apply more than three months in advance of your entry to the Schengen area. So - what are my options?

Fully agree with you that it is not worth risking it, but October 2016 and November 2017 my application took 4 days and 7 days respectively.

Suggest you speak to the agency doing those applications and explain the scenario to them, they would be able to give you the best advice.

(I used TLS Contact as they deal with Swiss applications) - no idea who would be dealing with them for the countries you mentioned.

Another question: if I were to apply to Estonia, as my country of first entry, would they accept a return flight ticket for Moscow, since I intend travelling overland from Moscow to Estonia (there's a train via St Petersburg), then through the Baltics, and back to Moscow from Latvia or Lithuania?
