School e-rate due next year

It's boggles my frickin' mind that it took so long to implement this. Surely the DoC just says "All registered educational institutions get 1/2 price internet access" and gives Telkom said list of institutions and a list of ISP numbers the schools use.

Telkom then just halves the call fees every month. TADA done!

Literally someone could do this entire thing in an afternoon.

Nope - the department of education that pays teklom bills every month probably gets a comission based rebate from teklom for every cent that they pay and they are holding the whole process back cos they want a new deal from teklom before allowing the rebate to be processed as such. The rebte is given to them from teklom and is the principal reason that most schools have about 5 dial-up accounts and dedicated lines despite the fact that they hardly use them cos the schools don't have PC's. It's called bribery and corruption in other countries. In SA - it's Just Business.

Or - something like that.

Wow with Telkom's prices schools still cant afford this. A whole 50% lower... (note sarcasim)

"A DOE statement says the e-rate is aimed at lessening the education and skill gap between public and private schools by allowing public schools an advantaged access to information."
I wonder how many of these public schools have computers. I know most Model C schools have computers but what are the chances that they will be e-rated when they service the relatively affluent middle classes? The same middle class that makes up the bulk of Telkom's ADSL subscriber base and can apparently afford the exorbitant monthly charges for the privilege.

telkom put education and money on a scale. It always tips to the money side because money is more improtent to them than education.
Thanks telscum for trying to keep my children in the dark ages.
Lucky for my children their school have Sentech.:D
