Thank goodness!! I was worried that my kids won't be safe in a government school here in South Africa, but luckily more kids are shot in schools in the US. Phew, dodged a bullet there.....:erm:

There's a bit more to raising a kid than just the time they spend in school. I already spend a fortune on my kids education - and I'm ok with that - but their future, as well as their current, quality of life concerns me.

Good to know but by a load you mean how many more per 100,000 of the population?

I went to a school with well over 100 years worth of heritage by the turn of the century. One that you would assume was decent. I saw two kids get into an altercation over a dice game, not sure if it is still played, or even what the rules are, but maybe you know what I am talking about.
The one kid stabbed the other one in the back of the neck over 50c, and the disagreement of who won.

So no, not even the decent model C's or private schools are immune to this idiocy. Less chance of it happening there of course, but it still happens.

Don't know stats, but either way it's shocking that kids are getting brutally attacked from fellow pupils, whether it be here or anywhere in the world.
 
These kids live in townships where they see stabbings and shootings every day. To us, seeing a stabbing is a big thing, but to them, it's as common as a fist fight. KZN townships are extremely rough. Nothing will change unless you move those kids away from those townships where fights and stabbings are glorified.

There's less of a problem in model c schools because most of those kids come from "stable" environments. The problem is what happens before and after school.

I have to agree,I was involved in a fight or two in my school days but there was never ever an incident at my school where anybody was afraid of getting stabbed or killed,this is simply savage mentality on show right here IMO two factors are to blame:

Liberal nut jobs who wouldn't like to give the teachers any sort of punishment power at all (all it would need to avoid abuse is proper guidelines) and as has been pointed out the "location culture",I know a few people that come from the locations and they describe how its almost normal behaviour for them to come across on a daily basis and the kids are clearly reciprocating it.

Right now in the Evaton area there are gangs of teenagers attacking people randomly murdering babies and beating up elderly people just for fun they call themselves "The Wrong Turn "Gang based on the movie where random strangers are attacked and killed even. The cops are powerless and instead of acting against the wrong turn gang they instead arrest members of the community that fight back,its actually quite sad I know my domestic worker was almost attacked but managed to escape on her way to work just last week in the morning and she was quite shaken up,a friends maid was not so lucky and is sitting in hospital right now after these thugs who are not even interested in money attacked her.

The police need to catch a wake up if criminals are walking around in broad daylight attacking people and with marks on their face to identify themselves as part of the gang then what the hell are the cops doing?

I reckon this has more to do with the perception of the value of life than anything else. Life is cheap in Africa, and this type of a thing is a natural follow on from that.

Rather run that risk than having students killing each other at break.

There is only thing the type of thug who resorts to stabbing during fights understands and that is if he steps out of line he is going feel pain. That is the currency these knuckle draggers deal in. Not some 'enlightened' bleeding heart with a degree who is going to hold his hand, stroke his hair and listen with compassion to him blab about his mother issues or something the naive "do-gooder "deludes themselves is the source of his aggression.

A set of guidelines and ground rules would be necessary,like only specific parts of body could be hit with specific object etc...certain number of maximum strokes and if permanent injury or bleeding occurs jy gan in die *** wees for brutality.

The chances of somebody dying that way are much less than the current lawless rampage pupils are on in South African schools,I have a friend who left teaching even though he enjoys teaching kids still does tuition after hours because I quote "I cant teach these animals if they don't want to learn".I thought thats strange to refer to kids as animals,one look at the video and you know what he was talking about!:sick:
