Scirroco is Here!!! :D

Okay lets leave the fiat out... Lets throw some other names around, you can get the new Audi TT, Nissan 350z and Mazda RX8 in this car's price class.

Something a bit more stylish? How bout a Lexus IS250?

Or wait for it a scirocco... a 1.4l VW how does that sound? JK would you agree that the pricing doesnt make sense even if it has a windscreen lol.

The cheapest TT is R390 000 base
The 350Z is R490 000
The RX8 no price on the site.
The Lexus IS250 S Manual is R370 000
The 2.2 Brera is R432 000
The Honda Type R is R304 000 - R314 000!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
The S2000 is R435 000
Ford Focus R287 000 yawn...

With all these prices, Ill definately take the 2.0T Scirroco!!
Name another car with more street cred than this!

Okay wait, this must be after all these price increases, i was looking at a base scirroco with one or two extras like sunroof and 18" rims that will bring the cost at around R350K!
So RX8 was R300k dont know what it is now maybe around R350k
Apologise about the 350Z thought it was in the RX8's bracket but its not it seems
Audi TT is R390k so thats close
Lexus is right on the money
Type R is cheaper
Focus way cheaper

These cars compared to a 1.4L T VW Scirroco, we're talking about a 2.5L T V6.. a 2L VTEC a 170kw odd rotary and a 2.0T

I never mentioned a S2000 or Brera to begin with you added them to prove your own point. Come on i know the Scirroco is pretty i like it 2 but looking at these numbers dont you think its overpriced at all?

If i had 300k i would not be spending it with VW.

Finished and Kla.

Ok base Scirroco is 280K panoramic roof 8K, 18" R4K, thats still under 300k.
It might not be as fast as the ST but even though I havent sat in the 1.4 im sure its far better than the ST... no contest.
The Type R is an odd car, i still dont understand it, wild looking, very brash in your face but it looks well put together. The speed of the Type R is bad, if a PGti can take it sooooo easily, I expect this 118kw Roc to be much faster than the Type R! So, for less than a Type R you getting a much higher specced car and possibly faster on the highveld.
I added the S2000 and Brera coz I came across it while searching for current prices.

the Lexus is for a completely different driver.
The best rival would be the TT, 370k base price vs 350k Scirroco... again depends on the type of driver... im not the roadster type...

So ye all the cars are ridiculously overpriced, but as they stand now, the Scirroco 1.4 and 2.0T are decently priced.
Ofcourse it would have been better if it was cheaper... but acceptable for the current climate.

JK8, the scirroco aint the prettiest of cars??? did you se one in person? ... but like many cars that i did not like at first they always grew on me and it stuck ... those cars i loved on 1st sight, they wore off very quickly ...

I'd buy an Alfa GT. Love the car despite what people think of Alfa.

*waits to get lambasted*

While I have already confessed how the 1.4 TSI has impressed me I think that you are missing the point JK8.

Power output is not everything and speed is not everything. Those things matter most to Audi drivers and primary school kids playing Top Trumps.

For many people (especially the older ones that can afford these cars) looks, brand, heritage, passion, personality and other non-measurable things means a lot more than peak power output and max speed.

The problem with the Scirroco is that it is a Volkswagen. While there is a new wave of VW-be***tes many people would much rather spend money on something like a Mercedes for about the same money. The same goes for cars like the Brera and RX-8 (even the Z car) - they have lots more "soul" than the VW.

You say R300k for a VW Scirroco ? I say 7k short of a C180 Classic.

I would never buy an Alfa - but the reason you are buying it is for the love an icon that has soul, history, heritage and so much more than a mass production initiative from the Nazis. Therefore I salute you in your Alfa ! :D

Thanks Rouxenator at least someone understands the madness behind buying an Alfa. :)

I saw one at Autoafrica... but all the cars and girls everywhere... I kinda missed it:o
I do like it, alot! I said it could be bland to some, but from the after Rocs ive seen, they awesome!!

It is when you comparing a Scirroc to a Type R.

You can't blame those who don't get it. :)
Remember, for some cars is a numbers game while for others it is a passion and soul thing. ;)

I like Alfa, but from the 80s, none of the new ones...
Infact all Italian cars from the 80s, Lancia Integralle, Maserati Ghibli, Alfa GTV6, Ferrari Testorossa.... my all time favourites.

R282k for the base model?...with a 118kw 1.4 engine. The spec sheet doesn't look particularly appetizing either (if you're not willing to tack anything onto the base model)

FAIL!

The only advantage I see would (hopefully) be a few less tools rushing out to buy the Golf 5/6 GTi and filling our roads (further) with their poor/unimaginative car choices.
