Anyone ride one of those cute little things?

Is there a particular brand that will not fall apart within weeks, and is not too expensive?

Thanks?

Vespa

These new / unknown / cheapie scooters are fine as long as you have a dealership and workshop in your vicinity, not for the wrong reason but it will provide you peace of mind.

I know many with Big Boy, Gomoto, Zest, Skygo and they never complain… I’m sure many share parts or are rebranded…

In my case I will only buy a Vespa and soon Fat Boy…

Cheapies need regular maintenance. Change the oil etc, and you should be fine.

I've just sold my Vuka 110XL. Wasn't a great bike at all, but was all I could afford and it got me from A->B.

If you can afford it, get something Japanese.

Also, even though it's a scooter: ATGATT as much as you can!

ATGATT?

I've always loved the idea of a scooter, but I am scared for safety on these scary roads.

@Copa, if you don't have the cash to buy new you can always finance it. The dealers normally offer that option as well.

Having said that, I would advise you not to buy second hand

Will most certainly not buy second hand, that's a recipe for disaster I reckon.

Which is why ATGATT.

What qualifies as ATGATT?

Can you explain what it means?

All The Gear All The Time.

This took me 3 seconds on google to find out...

Pretty sure I beat you by a second :p

And as a biker (well 3 years last) I feel kinda bad for not knowing that  :D

Guys on scooters especially seem to think a tshirt and plakkies are OK for cruising around. There are threads on biker forums with pics of what happens when those okes hit the tar @ 60kph. NSFL.

Chicks too- lovely long legs and an open face helmet :)wtf:) Looks good, but damn! Why'd you take the risk of ruining all that with road rash??

I used to do it- but now almost always use gloves, jacket and closed shoes. Still wear shorts tho.

A colleague of mine bought a GoMoto a couple of years ago with 3.5k on the clock, he has now done 40k without any major issues with or problems.

I myself would stay in away from the BigBoy brand, they seem to have many issues and problems.

LOL....I used to own a Vespa 300 GTS and often did 130 km/h with t-shirt, plakkies and openface helmet. :)

However, I sold it after seeing ANOTHER motorbike accident. (The dude was taken off his bike by a delivery van that was in a rush.)

Still miss that bike, loved it. :(

GoMoto and Bigboy is the same cheap Chinese scooters. A good experience isn't brand specific on these cheap chinese scoots, but dealer specific. A good dealer with great after market care will get you a long way.
I have a BigBoy Retro now for over 3 years. I looked after it and it still takes me to work and back. Now almost 10000km later.

If you want something reliable, go the Japanese scooter way (Suzuki BWS or Honda, etc)
