Scooters.

GoMoto and Bigboy is the same cheap Chinese scooters. A good experience isn't brand specific on these cheap chinese scoots, but dealer specific. A good dealer with great after market care will get you a long way.
I have a BigBoy Retro now for over 3 years. I looked after it and it still takes me to work and back. Now almost 10000km later.

If you want something reliable, go the Japanese scooter way (Suzuki BWS or Honda, etc)

Speaking from personal experience. My dad bought a brand new BigBoy F35 last year. At about 500km the bike developed a nasty habit of not wanting to start after being driven.

If you want something reliable and though, get yourself a Bajaj Avenger. :)

Mine is still going strong after 5 years, driven daily to work in comfort.

A Bajaj Avenger?

Sounds like a match between a Bengal tiger and the Avengers.

Let me Google that. :)

Lol at the same time Google Kawasaki Eliminator, you'll find it's the same bike as the Bajaj, of course the Bajaj has a 180/200cc Bajaj engine whereas the Kawasaki is 125cc.

Ok, looks nice, almost like a vintage/retro look.

But why the Eliminator and Avenger names? It's not really in the same league as a Yamaha YZR, or is it? :)

Kymco, Piaggio and Yamaha are the best scooters you can buy.

Vespa is rubbish with inflated prices and supposedly retro design and pointless features.

Everything else....you get what you pay for. Cheap plastic crap.

Vespa rubbish hey? That is why you can still have one in good nick from 1964.

Yes the looks is what made me buy one, don't regret it one bit. They are built as cruisers and meant to be driven at comfortable cruising speeds. Anything higher than say 120km/h for lengthy periods will be uncomfortable since you sit upright and get a lot of resistance from the wind, so they can't really compete with the likes of a Yamaha YZR.

I love Kymco bikes but they are expensive as hell, wouldn't mind owning one though.

I fully agree with you that the Vespa pricing for South Africa is ridicilous and that Piaggio (they own Vespa) is throwing away a brilliant opportunity to sell a crapload of Vespas here....but I loved my Vespa 300 GTS!!

Just a fantastic scooter and definitely the best quality one I've ever driven.

A Vespa 300 GTS Super. I also had the white one, looked stunning.

My wife drove a jonway when thy first hit the market a few years ago, purely since it was more economical than the car. She had it for about 3 years before we moved back to JHB and loved it. We took it in for services when needed and never had any problems.

We were talking about this the other day and whenever we see someone riding a NEW Vespa they are usually image conscious yuppies. For the price I could buy two super cool beach buggies :D

Bought a Honda Vision and been driving it for the past two months to work and back (65km round trip). And all I can say is it is the best investment I've ever made. My monthly petrol bill is about R260 pm compared to R1600 - R1800 pm when driving my car.

My only gripe was that I should have bought the Honda PCX instead of the vision as you can always do with more power.

Great savings though :)

No, I just wanted the best scooter money could buy.

At the V&A Waterfront, there is a guy that drives a 1964 Vespa!! Show me any other scooter that lasted that long.

I dare you.

I am referring to the new Vespa's you can actually buy right now, not the originals that were all metal.

They are terrible because they are horribly overpriced, have a ridiculous amount of flex which makes them horrendous unsafe to ride at any kind of speed, badly put together (flapping windscreens for one) and just generally function follows form designs.

Also they are hard to work on and therefore you get charged extra for simple things like changing tyres.

You can't compare a 1964 Vespa with a new Vespa, it's not even remotely the same.

That's like saying a modern Ford Mustang is awesome because there are still 1964 models around.

Anything can last that long if looked after nicely and restored properly.

Jeez dude, relax! If you can't afford it, just buy something cheaper & stop being a hater!

I've driven my 300 GTS Super for a few years and can testify that it is a fantastic bike.
