Scott, I will look at the 1/18 Harrier come end march. There is a shop in Germany that they sell at about 69 Euro, which is a darn site cheaper than the place in Japan. Only getting stock in on 30/03.

We will be pricing in the VAT and duty increase effective 16th March 2018.

As duties are calculated when the packages enter SA we need to add in a lead time.
 
Hi all, a bunch of popular items are going to be affected by this 2% increase in excise duties. Just waiting on the new tariff sheets to confirm and will provide details.

SARS being SARS they've only released the updated tariff sheets today... This is regarding the 2% increase in excise duties.

Popular items on our service affected:

Telephone sets, including telephones for cellular networks
Audio amplifiers
CD/tape players
Digital cameras and video camera recorders
Almost all AV items, this includes TV boxes
Monitors/TV's/Projectors
Radios

And then finally the new tariff description:

Machines for the reception, conversion and transmission or regeneration of voice, images or other data, including switching and routing apparatus:
Apparatus designed for use when carried in the hand or on the person

As I suspected this was included to catch tablets, these will now be subject to excise duties unfortunately.

We've been pricing these in for the last week or so, however if all this worries you don't panic, we'll sort everything on your behalf! One price, one payment, one delivery :)

Perfumes and toilet waters
Fireworks
clothing accessories and other articles of fur skin
Air conditioning machines
Single loudspeakers, mounted in their enclosures

Motorbikes exceeding 800cm3 engine
Jet ski's
Guns and accessories

I always thought duties were a “penalty”’for items that could be manufactured locally but now it seems SARS just want to collect more for lining politicians pockets.

I'm not sure where this line of thinking comes from, possibly the coverage of the textile duties to protect the local industry or the chicken thing, I dunno...

The excise duties above are touted as a "luxury goods tax" and I can see the reasoning behind most of it. The main tariff sheets I've got no idea why some things are being taxed, I mean why a kids tricycle has a 20% duty on them I will never know.
