Hi all,

You know those times where you do something stupid and scratch your car on a pillar in a parking lot :crying:

I wish I was better with DIY but unfortunately I suck at it. I can't tell how deep it is so I have no idea if it'd buff out or if I'd make it worse if I tried >.<

So I took it in for a quote at a place called 3PE scratch repairs in Randburg (the reviews I could find on them were all good) and they quoted me R2800. Does this sound reasonable? Any advice?

Thanks in advance :)

I don't think that will buff out.

It's sounds about right. But try a panel beater or 2, they might come in a bit cheaper.

Have you tried just normal car polish? Most of that will come out I think, then you can decide if you can live with the damage that's actually there...

R3k sounds abt right, only if it means a respray....

Ya quote says

Labour: R650
Strip & Assessment: R350
Paint Lab: R1600

So I'm assuming they'll just sand down and respray?

Thanks for the replies guys. Makes me feel a lil' better that they aren't just trying their luck with me :)

Unfortunately we seem to live in a time where you have to question every quote for anything :/ A colleague during the week took his Macbook in to get the SSD fixed, the end result kept changing between it was "power surge" and now they have to repair the motherboard and replace the CPU. One of those things you know is a lie since it sits plugged into the UPS plugs at the office >.< I might be slightly OT here though...

Be careful, a friend had one panel resprayed, they ended up respraying the whole car. They could not get the color right. The insurance did pay.

Hmmm...Had thought about going to GM Motors and maybe seeing if they can give me the colour code for the car.

Yup. Think it's a 2011 model, 1.4T. My parents retired so got a good deal from them for it :)

I wen't for quotes to have my passenger door resprayed yesterday at 2 places.
R2800-R3100.

Luckily that will be covered by my scratch\dent insurance.

Dents and scratches all look like it was caused by too many idiots opening their car door against mine.

You probably can get cheaper. I had my a portion of my rear bumper repaired and sprayed for R1800 after someone reversed into me in a parking lot. It had to be sanded, filled and reshaped a little. Went to one of those Dent Magic places. Plastic is probably easier to work with though.

I think I went to the same place in Randburg and they quoted me R1200 for my car about 2 weeks back. Front driver side bumper did a pole scratch as well.

It is.

had my front and rear bumper resprayed and insurance forked out R2500 for it.

Quote for my door - R3000
Quote for bonnet - R2500
