Good evening all,

Today after doing some shopping in Makro Silver Lakes, I came back to my car with a 30x2cm scratch on the rear bumper. Through the paint and all

Now a bystander saw it happen and took down the number plate of the car responsible, a Toyota Etios with plate CM 04 KW GP. The useless car 'guards' saw nothing and only saw it when they came to collect a tip and I asked them about the scratch.

How can I go about tracking this person to give them a piece of my mind? I went to the SAPS and filed a report but they can't seem to be bothered.

Would my insurance be able to track them if I give them the plate?

My car is only 6 months old

Report it as a hit and run and then let your insurers earn their premiums

They sure can track it, don't worry. Hope you thanked the bystander profusely.

Ouch:( Can happen anywhere, but I find that people park really sh*tty at Makro Silverlakes, in particular. I always park in a quiet spot all the way down at that prefab Wendy house thing for this reason. The car guards only run after me to "help" me unpack my trolley. They're definitely not there to watch cars.

Hope you're able to track the douchelord down.

My car wasn't keyed, it was scratched on the rear by said Etios. I'm going to install a towbar on my car after I get it fixed, hopefully that'd help in the future

And none of the repair places I went to this morning do any work on Saturdays...Hopefully someone at work would be willing to play taxi :D

Tbh I have no idea how the Etios managed to do that, I was parked next to a Hilux that protruded about half a meter past the rear of my car. :wtf:

Sorry, I read it wrong, so their car made contact with your car....ahhh ok.

Insurance excess probably makes a claim non-viable. Perhaps someone with a contact might be able to run the plate and get an address for you.

I may be able to look up the plate for you if you are interested in still perusing this ?

what info can you get from running a plate? pm if you dont want to post here

.....
With the right contacts, all the info you write on your car papers when renewing. That includes ID. ID can get more info again.
.....

Meh, you'll get used to it. My car got keyed when it was 4 months old. Still have the scratch 3 years later.
