Ok, so this only works with disks where the top surface is scratched, not deep, toe nail clipper craters. My previous xbox (was replaced last week) made fine scratches on my GOW disk. i am busy working my way through insane, and i got intermittent read errors. Until a point where i could not load a checkpoint. I read up, and decided to try something.

be carefull, make sure not to worsen the disk, so if it doesnt work, you can still take it back.

1) use a high quality car polish, that has a very fine grain. i used AUTOGLYM. apply using a very soft cloth. give it a few mins to dry

2) using a soft cloth, wipe the polish off from the centre outwards. do this softly, alot, untill all traces of polish is gone.

you will VISIBLY see most of the fine scratches gone.

it works the same principle as polishing a car, it fills the scratches, that allows the lazer to pass through undistorted.

(use the above advise at own risk. as long as it does not look worse, it will help)

Mine looks alot better afterwards. and loads faster, so far so good :)

I have access to a machine that polishes out scratches works like a dream. Same principle just you dont have to sit there polishing it.

rub from the centre out. softly as possible to lift the polish. rather to it alot, than hard. when you apply the layer, a decent thickness is ok.
Remember, some polishes harden really hard. autoglym requires a thin layer, comes off easily. try on an old disk first.

@nrg_wp -> How did you replace your old xbox , was it still under 6 months warrenty ? Did you just take the box and keep everything else ?
How does it work ? PLEASE ! Mine also scrathes all my discs !

ok Tenshi, i didnt take it back for the scratches. i got the red corner light of death, Error 73, related to my ethernet. I called Look&LIsten. they said i have to call XBOX sa... that puts you through to the USA helpdesk. (dont worry, toll free 0800). some american chick takes you through troubleshooting, if it doesnt work, they give you a reference number. That number i gave to look & listen, and on the same day they gave me a new one.

iow... i dont know how exactly, but get the local XBOX help number, you will need a reference number that you give to the retailer to authorise a swop out.

Just use normal Brasso as well.

BTW, XBOX/PS3/PC don't scratch discs - people who try and whipe the finger smudges with their Markhams hempie do.

I use Braso (or whatever it's called) and rub in all directions, hard. Then I wash the thing off with dishwashing liquid. No problem!
