Ok, so this only works with disks where the top surface is scratched, not deep, toe nail clipper craters. My previous xbox (was replaced last week) made fine scratches on my GOW disk. i am busy working my way through insane, and i got intermittent read errors. Until a point where i could not load a checkpoint. I read up, and decided to try something.
be carefull, make sure not to worsen the disk, so if it doesnt work, you can still take it back.
1) use a high quality car polish, that has a very fine grain. i used AUTOGLYM. apply using a very soft cloth. give it a few mins to dry
2) using a soft cloth, wipe the polish off from the centre outwards. do this softly, alot, untill all traces of polish is gone.
you will VISIBLY see most of the fine scratches gone.
it works the same principle as polishing a car, it fills the scratches, that allows the lazer to pass through undistorted.
(use the above advise at own risk. as long as it does not look worse, it will help)
Mine looks alot better afterwards. and loads faster, so far so good
