Screamer ADSL

Thanks IRG and Diabolus, I am running Win 7 so will try CFosspeed,

Mailed Screamer account for Cancelation..... Surprise Surpise No response yet..... LOL..... :}}

I rebooted my Router... seem to be getting good speeds again. Not the best, but better for sure! Only 70 to 80mb per hour. Should be getting a lot more, but oh well.... and thats on HTTP & Torrents at the same time.

i am getting pretty good speeds at the moment - and the avg dload rate has upped to +- 108mb an hour (over the last 12 hours)
 
you lucky. i tried to download some stuff straight from http sites this morning and i was getting about a total of 5 kb/s.

If i do a straight forward http download (one segment) it never gets over 10-15kB/s. If I chuck the same download into my FDM, then it runs up to 50kB/s. Obviously more segments helps.

Yeah it's kinda like the dialup days... Use Flashget and you should see max speed.
 
Getting better

You guys seem to have had hell this weekend. Mine seems ok most of the time

I'm on a 384k line and got the following:
Direct Downloads: up to 4-7KB/s (each download).
Torrents: Up to 20KB/s
Total speed: +- 30KB/s.

I tried playing Second Life a bit and during that time got an average download rate of 32KB/s (playing SL and downloading 2 torrents at approx. 5K each). got at least a Gig for each day over this weekend.

Is this good or bad? Only had ADSL for a week now (switching from dialup :p)

The maximum I can get on my 384 kbps line is 40 kB/s, or 320 kbps. You can compare this to your own figures.

This translates to about 140 MB/hour, or 3.2 GB/day. Of course, this assumes a link that's fully saturated for the whole day and running at max speed.

I normally work on a max of 35 kB/s, or 280 kbps, for any ISP.

:( I thought my speeds were ok. So I'm actually getting pretty bad speeds then? Anybody get that full 40KB/s as a constant speed on screamer?

I know that on my Afrihost account I can get 40K/s on direct downloads easy (constant speed). but I wouldn't keep that on 24/7... That'd burn a hold through my pocket...

Rather work on 35 kB/s, it more accurately reflects what I normally get on my link. As for whether Screamer lives up to that - they are sometimes up and sometimes down. Last week I got 35 kB/s on torrents. Will still see this week what happens. I limit my download speeds during the day.

for the last hour been getting a steady 38-39 KBps

Uhm, no :)

I limited my torrents to 10 kB/s, and they are holding steady there. I am also streaming down 702 at 16 kbps, so I am consuming a constant 12 kB/s, above and beyond my browsing and SSH sessions.

In contrast, anything above 48 kpbs, or 6 kB/s was considered good on dialup. The absolute max was 56 kbps, or 7 kB/s. Just idling on my link I consume double that.

True. I do get better speeds, though, on a fairly consistent basis. It may be the specific sites we visit that causes this as well.



The above was taken without stopping my torrents or my audio streaming, so it was not on a unused link. My audio streaming didn't stutter once. I tested earlier this morning and got a 0.3 Mbps, though I closed it without copying the link.

Ok... So I have downloaded Mipony for my Hotfile Premium account. I have queued 10 X 256mb files as well as 3 in Opera (all from hotfile) I am currently downloading 7 of the 13 files and it is Screaming!!! in 20min 76mb! Going to leave it running all night to see how far it gets. At this rate I should get about 210mb an hour. So by tomorrow 7AM it should have finished the whole download!!! (I wish & Hope!!)
