Screamer ADSL

ADSL speeds - 384Kbps

Yes, have to agree, since late last week things are looking good, I get 327Kbps (according to router chart) continously, non-stop, I don't use Torrents but have lots of podcasts and rapidshare links so I'm completely happy now. Rocky start and there were points I wanted to pack up and go but if services remain the same no need.

Howzit, assume you are catching up a bit too with the initial rush being over, keep it up.

saturday and sunday i did 3.3 and 3.1 gb p/day.....very happy....keep it up..

things better on screamer now? I was there when it started, had a couple of issues with speed, line drops etc. Are things more stable there now? how is the HTTP (paid for through Rapidshare account) downloads going?

I'm upping to the 512 service, I find 384 just a tad slow. Used to iBurst, which probably averages a 512 type of speed....

Now that our full range of Unlimited ADSL services have been operating for a month I thought it was a good idea to create a thread where we can efficiently update our forumite clients on developments iro our ADSL services.

We will try to repond to all comments and queries that are not already answered elsewhere on this thread or on our ADSL FAQ page (http://www.screamer.co.za/faq_adsl.php). Any questions on our other services such as WiMAX, Voice, Hosting, etc will still be addressed on threads under the appropriate sections on this forum.

I have taken the liberty of reserving a few posts at the start of this thread that we will be updating from time to time with new developments so that you don't have to search through this thread for important updates.

We would really appreciate feedback on the service your are receiving and once a month every member's name who has posted a speedtest to speedtest.net's local and one international site will be placed in a draw and the first name drawn will receive a 6 month credit on the service package they have with us.

Thanks for keeping us informed;), will be a customer soon:)

Here is my impression of Screamer ....

I asked a few simple questions to the call centre and they told me that they will get back to me. I recieved no call back as of yet.
I sent an e-mail only to get a reply to my question 4 days later.

This is not customer service. This is absolute bull. I have gotten better response from Telkom.

Has the speed issues now been resolved and can you provide a test account like DigiChilli? I would like to make an educated decision before trusting anyone with my internet.

Do you support news servers on port 119 also is the network shapped or unshapped, and do you allow for access to news servers.

Thanks

Hi

If you have any questions that have not been answered please PM me or post them here and I will answer them.

We are currently not connecting any new clients until our bandwidth for our ADSL service has been upgraded which means that we are also not supplying any new test accounts.

We allow access to all news servers and do not shape their downloads.

I was very happy with my 512 connection at home and have just received my 1Mg connection login for my office.

I am getting 75Kb on it which I suppose might also be the result of a congested Telkom exchange because I get about 50Kb on my home 512 home connection.

Is this http downloads or torrents? How many KB are you getting?

using torrents and http downloader at the same time to get maximum speed . 4 item download at the same time.

As mentioned before, getting 327Kbps out of 384Kbps non-stop

on 384....browsing still not good, but downloads are steady...

Hey, make sure your DNS settings are correct, I setup my pc DNS servers to Screamer manually and they changed it, so browsing would time out and not resolve etc, since changing back to their new settings all works fine, this of course was last week.

which local news servers work with the screamer accounts??

From what I've seen most of the local news servers work on a Screamer connection.

It looks like the news server hosters like IS and SAIX are not allowing any connections from competitors IP ranges like DigiChilli and SAOL but because Screamer is using a NAT'ed network they cant identify a Screamer connection and therefore cant prevent access.:D

I have a mixed bag of results. HTTP downloads are more often than not, slow. On the other hand, torrents are quite fast. I normally do about 1GB a day on my 384kb line, which is not great at all, but times that by 30 days and the R400 suddenly becomes worthwhile. Maybe I should just use my afrihost account to browse and screamer to download.

so then does this mean that this will not work when the NAT'ing is fixed!!
that would be a pitty .... as I would rather have access to a local news server than have to get an intl one ... hopefully WA will bring something nice to the party :D
