Screamer WiMax

One question what latency do you get in WoW through screamer wimax, and also I live in Wilgeheuwel, Roodepoort, cnr of Hendrick Potgieter and Nick Diedricks, is there coverage there?

Hi Diegoa

We cover most of Wilgeheuwel. If you are in a built-up area there might be some patchy areas so the best thing is to send through an application and we will send out an installation team.
If the signal strength is not at an acceptable level the application will be cancelled:(, but if it is at the level required by our Tech dir then they will install you and you will become a Screamer:)

Latency in WoW is perfect, anything from high 300's to low 600's fo me. All depends what server you are on and how busy it is.

Obviously in busy area's like Dalaran and 25 man raids the latency goes up a bit but it's just as good as being on DSL. I haven't had any problems in Naxx 25 or Ulduar 25.

Just got onto Screamer, WoW (Moonglade EU) works perfectly. Never seen it higher than 400ms.

One thing that will make a difference is your downlink speed and whatever else is happening on your connection. I recommend upgrading to a 1mbps or 2mbps downlink speed to handle spikes in data intensive encounters.

one day when i got the $$ will upgrade to the 1MB connection.
sofar my connection runs pretty good.

I'm happy with the 512 so far. For WoW it's fine, hosting dota is perfect.

I'm not a heavy downloader tho, I do most of that at the office, I only use the connection for gaming and casual surfing.

quick question.
Heard that screamer uses neotel link as well for thier backhaul i think it was ?
if so , how does having seacom going online today i think it was. have an impact on our connections with regards to browsing / gaming to europe etc.

.. /facepalm if i got all the above wrong lol

We use the Neotel link mainly for redundancy and I don't think they will be switching all their Seacom pipe on just to improve latency.

As far as costs go their wholesale Seacom bandwidth costs are still on par with SAIX:(

ahh bugger :) well hopefully later down the line we shall some good things happening :D

laughed at my mate last night while playing wow. he has 4mb unshaped dsl line.
was getting 3000ms ping.

there i was with my 400ms :D
lol all night...

Hi there

I am looking into the option of Screamer, as the complex i recently moved into never ran the phone lines through the walls from the telkom box. As such, i am going to need to pay R1500 for someone to run the cable through the roof (excludes the cost of cable). The complex wont let me run it, as they have approved suppliers for ripping up tiles etc.

Apparently, i should be covered for both WiFi and WiMax (am in morningside). I am wanting some opinions on which would be the more stable and better long term solution with the greatest potential for increased speeds going forward. Would rather pay the higher upfront cost now, if it is going to be better long term.

Any advice is welcome (Telkom wont accept a WiMax order, NeoTel seem too slow, from what I've heard and Telkom wcdma is not in my area).

Thanks in advance

From what I've heardScreamer WiFi and WiMAX have the same latencies but if you want to get higher speeds then WiMAX will be the way to go.

Upgraded my connection this weekend from 512 kbs to a 1mb line this past weekend and wow .. the improvement is immense :)

open browser , open all favourites log into wow - alt tab and its all done ;p

not to mention the awesome turn around time from request to delivery. screamer ftw

hehe that 1MB def makes a difference.

i have another query tho.

I see the out of bundle rate is 12c per MB

Driving down william nicole i see the charge there is 6c per MB.

So which is correct :)

Hi Darksun

Those prices are applicable to the bundled voice and data packages we launched. You will see that the pole ads say that bundled packges T&C's apply.
In fact if you work it out on our Savy business bundle the rates are even lower than 6c.
