Screamer WiMax

The last of my replies ... been awhile since I have been on the forum :)

I use Screamer to connect to the European servers. Using Gamemax (or similar proxy) I get somewhere between 240-350 ms latency.

Lately though I have suffered with disconnects as I have had an unusually large number of timeouts to the Bryanston tower. Screamer has acknowledged the problem (kudos) and are working on the problem, which I have will be corrected this week.

In summary: Screamer is having some teething problems as they expand their network - but I would take this any day over having to deal with a faceless organisation (no names mentioned). I have built up a good relationship with some of their senior resources and happily recommend Screamer to anyone that is tired of dealing with the incumbents.

Ive noticed what you have explained as well and glad to hear they are sorting it out :)

equipment needed

ok, I am offically sick of trying to get a phone line and ADSL line installation going. Been a foreigner here is a pain. :)
Thought I see how this works. I just send Screamer an email asking about the coverage to my apartment. Hope it comes back positive. :)
Hardware wise, what is needed for this WiMAX from Screamer to work.
I understand you have the WiMAX antenna and box from Screamer(outright buy or monthly rental???). Do I connect this to a ADSL router???

Backhaul seems to be up although anything non port 80 is not working , no luck with support yet.

Had a chat to them. Problem was with Neotel. They split their network between Neotel and SAIX and I am on the Neotel section.

They have moved all their customers on SAIX until Neotel correct the problem (estimate is sometime today). They have limited the access to certain ports/sites in order to handle the increased demand on their SAIX bandwidth.

Let's hope it sorts out later today.

WiMax hardware includes two key components, namely the IDU (Indoor Unit) and CPE (Customer Presence Equipment) - or at least thats what I think the acryonyms are. You can connect directly to the IDU if you only have a single machine (it has an ethernet port) or use a router if you want more machines connected. You do not use an ADSL router but rather a "normal broadband" router.

Hope this helps.

Since all you're really doing is sharing the connection you don't really need a router - an access point/splitter will do the job. And cheaper if I recall.

Will the CPE equipment give me more than one IP address if I want to connect my 2 computers?? Can you give me an example of a broadband router??? a model number???

Your router will be allocated an IP address by the ISP i.e. Screamer. You will then have local IP addresses for each of your machines by the DHCP server function of the router.

I use a Belkin N1 Router

anyone still having issues ?
tried to log onto my online games seems unable to connect to any of them. tho i am still able to browse web sites...

I am having the same issue, no steam, warcraft or wow the whole weekend. Surfing is fine though.

Looks like all the ports are being blocked and only port 80 is being allowed, even icmp outside of the screamer network is not working. Looks like somebody has changed some firewall rules or ACL's on the routers.

Sounds like that could be the problem. I have just spoken to support and Screamers Neotel link is down currently. If it is routing via the Telkom connection and they are blocking everything it would explain a lot.

Whats the point of having redundant connections with other suppliers if 90% of the services are blocked. Nice one......

bit miffed about that then. if you got redundant links then they should be used.

seriously hope they get this sorted out asap. as i would really like to get onto my wow account as well as my other online games.

I was also planning on having a chilled day at home to play some WoW and dota, looks like that aint going to happen.

It looks like all normal traffic is being routed via another connection and all the non standard ports are still routing via Neotel which is still down, guess it will be like this untill Neotel sorts their link out. The support guys said they would escalate the problem, maybe somebody will logon and help us out during the course of today.

can only hope so. as long as it is backup before 9pm tonight :D
got a raid on 25man ulduar :) wanna get that done...

ahh well guess will have to play on the ol xbox and keep checking..

Anyone know the location of Screamer wimax base stations in the the vicinity of Westpoint, Amazonas apartment complexes in Morningside???
I send Screamer a email asking this but thought I get the ball rolling here. :)

Seems to have been switched back to Neotel this morning ... guess everyone was too busy watching rugby on Saturday and recovering from a hangover on Sunday.

Anyone have issues similar to this.

Seems to happen at random times, if I am in WoW, Warcraft 3 or Teamspeak I get disconnected, happens every couple of hours.
