I know about the parental controls, but I don’t think it’s quite the same.

What I do on iPhone is set a specific amount of time I’m allowed for each app and lock myself out of the App Store and I can enforce this using a passcode that the girlfriend can select. When the allocated amount of time runs out, I either wait for it to reset at midnight or get the gf to enter the passcode.

This is a huge productivity booster for me and I can’t do without it, so if I’m going to try Android out I need the same functionality. Does it exist?

For android you'll need to rely on the 99999 dodgy apps to give you functionality that will never be as reliable, effective or work like Apple's built-in OS functionality :)
On the plus side while checking your screen time on a free Android app you might be offered some specials on underwear from Amazon.

This is what I was afraid of. If that’s the case, then no thank you.

Use your own willpower.

Lol Android users don't need an app to babysit them.

Willpower is a finite resource and I prefer to use it on other things.

Have a look at the Digital Wellbeing feature in the latest versions of Android. Sounds like that does what you're describing.

That’s it, thank you! Now all I need to know is if I can actually passcode lock it. Pointless if I can just disable it as soon as the timers run out.
