hey guys

got a little problem with my harddrive in my SD-PVR..

went on holiday came back to discover wen i go into the playlist or anything that involves the harddrive a message saying.. harddrive functions cannot be performed without a functioning harddrive.. so i figured the hard drive was broken... so i took it out and plugged it into my PC to discover there is nothing wrong wit it and can access all the data just fine...

any ideas??

thanks....

Regret I do not have any ideas on this one, but my question to you is this, how did you plug the SD PVR hard drive into your PC? I tried accessing it with laptop once before and it could not pick up the PVR? Special software? And can you copy data off of the PVR?

no special software needed at all... its connects through the normal IDE cable to my computer as if it were a normal hard drive... and from what i have heard you cannot cause it is encrypted.. and looking at the files on the hard drive here i very much doubt you could use them....

Thanks . . . pity! :(

Would love to digitally copy off to older documentaries and music recorded.

Looks like mnet did an update last night. I tried to record today and it said I had to be a valid subscriber to use that function. I rebooted and all was well.

In what formats are the files?
Perhaps try VLC to play some of the files?
If there is video in the file, VLC will be able to play it...

I have covered this one already in this forum.... The HDD is dying / dead. That is the error you get when it fails. Read my thread on how I modded my SD PVR (as well as backed up my original HDD and transferred all the data to the new one)

The Files on the PVR HDD are encrypted and will only work with the smartcard on your PVR device. You will not be able to put your HDD in another PVR. It wont work...

Check my thread.... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=199055
good luck...

Brilliant job you did on your SD-PVR IRG.

Have you done the same with your HD-PVR?

Nah, got 3 flipin PVR's now + streaming from any one of the 4 computers in my house... getting hectic!!! (SD-PVR + HD-PVR + mVix PVR) eish...

thanx tho for the kudo's!

Edit: give me a year or so once my HD-PVR is out of warrenty!! hehe

haha, I find one wants to record everything in HD and now with 2 more channels!!!!!?? The capacity is insignificant compared with the byte intensive HD footage...

I actually want to sell my mVix PVR, cause I dont ever use it as a PVR!! I want to get the mede8er instead. It can play way more than the mVix ever will. I have to convert any m2ts file to mkv so that I can stream it.... blahhh takes to frikin long!
And the mVix is NOT full HD!!! it can only go up to 1080i not 1080p. And it struggles with anything over 720p.

If you are looking for a nice media player that can play anything without costing you a arm and a leg, have a look at the Xtreamer.

Yeah I got a Mede8er. My 1st media player so nothing to benchmark it against. Downloaded a number of 1080p movies and it is superb. DVD and Blu-ray are obsolete in my house hold.. Picture quality and sound on a par with if not 3-5% better than HD_PVR from multichoice..

I think that's the beauty of it. Download the file transfer it to a flash drive, plug it in and watch... No burning or converting. Brilliant...

na the hard drive hadn't died it was just... i suppose corrupted some how or something like that.... formated created the 3 partions of correct size now it works perfectly... thanks anyway..

FYI, I suspected there was a more advanced setup on the HD-PVR preventing HDD changes / upgrades:
Just checked with the system engineer leading the development effort - bad news! The value of 500Gb is fixed in software so the box will only address the first 500Gb of whatever HDD you use so don't bother buying a bigger drive. Also, there is serial number checking implemented which matches your HDD to your box - another problem if you try to change HDDs. These features are not present on the old PVR so it would have been possible in the past.

Dumbarses! that kinda spoils it!!! Plus what happens when the HDD fails in the HD-PVR? Does it render the unit useless?? Can't be, there must be some sort of work around. Man, multichoice is closing any loophole when it comes to recording / backup of movies!!!
