Hey guys..

I bought a DStv SD PVR from bidorbuy over the weekend. a total bargain, at R350, shipping included.
I was told that TV2 wasn't working, all well and good.

Decoder arrived today from Pretoria.
I just plugged it in as is to test it. Turns out TV1, and TV2 do work, and there seems to be nothing wrong with the actual unit. Both channels emit a picture. I was unable to get a picture via the AV out, which I am assuming is due to an incorrect setting, but in RF mode, the picture is nice and clear, at least the menus are. I was supplied a scan of the affidavit from the previous owner. However upon it completing the initial scan, (I still need to buy a twin LNB upgrade kit), but that shouldn't stop anything from not working. I got an xtraview message flashing up on the screen saying, searching for primary decoder, which leads me to believe that that was part of a previous xtraview setup. I cannot find a way to disable xtraview, as this is the only decoder there is with me, I am assuming that is something Multichoice will do.
Also, when I do enter the other channel, with TV2 is operating on (I need to change the channel, as it overlaps Cape Town TV here), I get a message saying TV2 disabled please contact customer services. I read it is to do with the smartcard, and since the decoder is cut off, that is probably it. Question, if I took the decoder into Multichoice, and had it changed it to my name, are they able to reset it to factory defaults, and all will work again?

Thanks

They will refuse to change it into your name. Sorry about the R350 loss.

You've thrown money into the water here buddy, there's a reason why the SD PVR's are suddenly flooding the market. DSTV doesn't want to support it anymore.

Not true, I phoned their call centre, and the person who I spoke to, said it can still be done, it's just they'd advise against it, due to the move to the new satellite, and the R500 off for the xplora offer, but they still do, do new connections.

I thought as much. Yes, if you get the decoder registered in your name they will be able to break the link with the previous owners other decoder.

That's good to know. I have seen a number of people complaining on here that they refuse. Let us know how it goes.

I messaged someone I know, who works with DStv and who assists with other DStv related issues.
He was involved with implementing a number of their systems, and he said they indeed still do transfer them onto new accounts.

Well, I just had the 2 main guys from MC Field Services (Western Cape) in my office and they say no... So good luck.

Have an update.

Took the unit into Multichoice N1 service center yesterday, it turns out that they do indeed still do transfer of "Discontinued SD PVRs" I had completed all the paperwork and everything, the guy took the decoder into be tested, and it turns out that my unit was faulty, and they don't connect faulty decoders for whatever reason, so I ended up scrapping the unit, there and there, and I am going to be hunting for another SD PVR. So my issue wasn't with SD PVR's not being able to connected, it was related to an issue with that isolated unit.

Why exactly are you wanting to get a SD PVR?
